We just got two DSS systems for my buddy's 95 and my 96. We were going to have a party and install both of them tomorrow, but he could not wait and did his tonight.

My question is, has anyone had a problem when you took out the 4 bolts with threads coming out of the nut they are screwed into??? When my buddy took his stock ones out, one of them brought threads with it. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Tracy

I did not experience the threads pulling out, but 2 of the 4 hold down bolts broke. They wouldn't come up to torque quickly. I was using a properly calibrated torque wrench.

Sounds like some drilling and tapping is in the future.

The only thought I have is to use a slightly larger hole saw and weld in a nut so it's flush with the frame. Thread inserth that large require some hefty machinery to install. You also could check with a body upfitter in your rea that does wreckers , ambulances and trucks of the such.

Stripped Threads

Tracy,

I had the same thing happen when I installed my front hitch last year. I installed a DSS on top of the front hitch last week, and am going to have to remove the one of the bolt that won't tighten, and try to tap the nut for either a 12mm or 7/16 bolt.

I think they might have been over torqued when originally installed. If you come up with a better "fix" please post your solution.

Thanks,

Frank Dz

Frank,

Today we put on Luke's Links and also worked on the problem with the stripped threads for the DSS. Just drilled, taped 7/16, and installed a new bolt. Worked perfectly. My buddy is :D :D :D now.

7/16" Fix

Thanks Tracy,

I was going to do the same thing. I picked up some 7/16 bolts but haven't had a chance to tap and replace the stripped bolt.

Will get to it soon. :)

Take Care,

Frank Dz
