With the truck running stand outside your truck and reach in through the window, look under the truck and you will be able to see the pitman arm (off of the steering box). How much can you move the steering wheel without seeing any movement from the pitman arm?

If its like my truck and some others I've seen you will have an inch or two of steering wheel movement (back and forth) before you see any movement of the pitman arm.

You can do the alignment procedure below or get another box.

I have done the alignment, it helped but on mine does not eliminate the problem completely. I've got mine pretty tight, I have some returnability, that is when you turn the wheel it comes back to center if you let up on the steering wheel. It seems to have loosened up a little bit since then.

This guy will sell you a rebuilt box for about $185. with out a core charge (usually), and he will build it to your specs.
