Here I am

DTR or TDR

Attention: TDR Forum Junkies
To the point: Click this link and check out the Front Page News story(ies) where we are tracking the introduction of the 2025 Ram HD trucks.

Thanks, TDR Staff

Starting New Central Va. Chapter!!

wheres the calender?

Or pull down the discussion forums menu up at the top to view new posts - that's also where search, the user control panel, etc are. Keep in mind as I said above you can select which forums show up on that list as well. On the main forum list you'll see the S's inside circles on the left - if it's red with a slash through it that forum won't show up in searches unless you specifically ask for it, if it's grey then they will. Just click on it to change the status.

All of the features of the tdr are in those pull down menus up at the top and they are on every page on the website.

I LOVE THE TDR

I'll echo everyone's sentiments- the TDR is clearly the example.

The DTR is okay- but so much sarcasm, straying from posted topics, talk about "Infraction Systems", deleted posts-& just "over" moderation.

I have spoken to Lary on the phone-seems like a nice enough guy, but sometimes his written word leaves me unsure. No doubt he has a tough job but he brings some of it on himself.

A simple reminder about rules or just reeling someone back in always works here. I have read some pretty harsh replies by their mods and felt the orig writer didnt deserve it.

If theres a CTD in the barn, I will be a TDR paying member.

What's wrong with liking them both? I do. There are a lot of guys on there, like here, that are really sharp and know their diesels. Yeah, they ban people. It is people that agreed to the forum rules and then did not abide by them. It is a clean site and they don't tolerate vulgarity. It's good to have 2 sources of info. I Love both.

I like TDR, it is the widely recognized source for Ram CTD's with all the credibility earned by dedicated members and staff.

With that said, I still go to DTR and CF because there are many different takes on things. If there is something that I read/see that I don't agree with, I can still choose to respond or not. I always come back to TDR, and I will continue to do so. It took me a long time to get my CTD, and at the end of the day I want the most reliable information I can get about my truck; the kind of information that I can bank on for good or bad.

I.

Can we be de-throned? Sadly I think we can. I do not have an easy answer but one problem that stands out is website speed. The two sites use the same format but this site is easily 4 times slower. (I only have dial up available and I have to pay for a long dist. call when I am using the internet. )

I did not post this to start a fight but simply to wake us up to a possibility.

I am TDR faithful and my paid subsrciption will continue.

Steve and crew, good luck I hope TDR has many more years left.

-Mike

I think TDR is a great and VERY USEFUL information filled website. I have been a paid subsriber and supporter for many years. I enjoy the TDR magazine and the Travel Companion is a great resource to have on hand. I have learned a huge amount of info. from other member's experience and posts.

I enjoy DTR also as they seem to have more members who own and are geared towards the 2nd Gen. trucks such as mine.

I am not sure what happened or what the problem is but recently the TDR website speed slowed to a crawl. I have tried the dialup option and don't like it at all. Many of the features I like such as being able to roll over a post to get a pop up of what the first few lines are it great for reviewing the most recent posts. The dialup option removes that and more and the dialup mode is still slow.

I tried allowing the upload of Adobe Flashplayer which I didn't want on my computer and the website speed is marginally better but still SLOW... ... WAY SLOW. I live in a very remote area and only dialup and satellite is available. Not paying the high price of satellite. The amount of time it takes for pages to load on TDR now is just too slow to look at much more than a post or two.

The end result is that folks on dialup like me are forced to tolerate the dialup mode, endure unreasonable page load times, or be pushed out.

I am a member of both sites and have done a comparison on page load speed opening 2 windows with each site on at the same time. I can view 4 to 6 pages on DTR while one page is still loading to TDR. For some reason the first page to load on intially logging onto TDR can take upto 10 minutes.

Sure hope something can be done to fix the speed problem.

That is the problem I have. The dial up mode helps but man is it sparse. The DTR skin stays nice with all the features availible but is waaay faster?

NOT STARTING a war here. Just seems curious since they appear to be the exact same program??

As stated in original post TDR forever!! (Just would like the site to be "bombed" you know, box, propane, injectors, something. :)

AMEN! Brother! I think in this case we need a Big Line Kit, Draw Straw Kit and FASS for the website speed and bandwidth. :D ;)

Chief and Mike, please go over to this thread - https://www.turbodieselregister.com/forums/showthread.php?t=177758&page=4 - and try my suggestions on post #115 and discuss it there. There has to be something going on for your machines to be so much slower here than on the DTR site. Our servers have a 100 mbit connection to them and we have used an all time high ever of 4. 9 mbit. We have 4 servers running the site (twice as many as the DTR) and all are just loafing along at less than 10% of their full load. We do have more graphics on our page and we have far more in our menu which is also Javascript based which will also slow things some but it shouldn't be significant. As a test I just connected via my cell phone (~100k connection) and loaded several pages on both sites using IE so that I was sure I didn't have anything in the cache speeding things up (I use Firefox for my browser) and here are the results:

Main Forum page:

TDR - 47 seconds
DTR - 39 seconds

3rd gen non engine forum:

TDR - 27 seconds
DTR - 25 seconds

Large thread:

TDR - 20 seconds
DTR - 20 seconds

As you can see there isn't a huge difference. So there must be something different either on your PC, with your ISP, or with the connection between your ISP and our facility to cause it. Go to that thread above and try my suggestions and we will get it figured out for you.

Also, I would HIGHLY suggest anyone on a dial up connection download and start using Firefox ( http://www.firefox.com ) as your browser instead of IE - you will find it FAR faster than IE, especially on a dial up connection.
