ok SO IM STILL ON THE FENCE ! ok not really just waiting for the cash to pile up sum more!

have any of you with the DTT stuff installed used your trucks in the sand ??

I pull my trailer with my atv's on it out into the SAND! and was wondering if going slow would I be riding the brake peddle to keep it from getting burried or would it still just stop like i just kicked the anchor out the door like now? or easing of the brake from a start to keep it from dropping to the axles ?

Its not bad if the sand is a little damp or the traffic has been light but in the summer when the sand is dry and blowing some of the access roads and surounding areas that are churned up by some of the other 4x4 ahh... nice fellow users... it gets a little tricky!

so what experince have you and your DTT pieces had with the SAND?

thanks all

Guy

Not Sand, but..

Gberry, I have driven around in hub deep snow this last week, and I believe I can say that if I were to drive onto soft sand, that the truck would not have to be held back with the brakes.

The only time that the truck has to be 'held back' is on level or downhill pavement, or hard surfaces.

Hope this answers your question. Greg L

thanks Greg l (Lsfarm)

didnt think about snow but thats probably a good enough comparison have you had to do any towing in that kind of snow?

hum I see you have a lsd and a 3:54 gear I was told that lsd was not available with the 3:54 gears I looked all over and could only find it in the 4:10 wish now that i had got the 4:10 gears but that is another story!!

anyone want to trade axles??;)

GBerry

I'll let you know

I'm headed to dumont sand dune's in 2 week's with the tt and toy's! but when i hit the dune's i'll be sure to leave the tt on flat ground!

Towing in Sand

Hi GBerry, I have limited experience towing in soft sand or deep snow. The times I have, the biggest obstacle was wheel hop.

The rear axle hanging down below the springs on the lift blocks allows the axle to swing forward when it is trying to push the truck, and when the tires break traction, the axle snaps back, grabs some more traction and rotates forward again. This creates a rear wheel hopping effect.

Steve St. Laurent designed a set of 'Ladder bars" for running on the sand , and they are reported to work great. They virtually eliminate the rotation of the rear axle, and the hopping effect. I haven't purchased a set yet.

As far as the Limited Slip goes, there was a shortage of LSD for the 3. 54 axles when I ordered my truck as well. This was temporary, and I understand that LSD 3. 54 is available again.

I found an ad in the TDR classifieds for a Dana 70 LSD, and purchased it. It was a simple operation to swap it with the unlimited-slip gear carrier assembly. You only need the LSD assembly, not the gears, the ring gear swaps from one carrier to the other. My truck was almost dangerous to drive on wet pavement without LSD. Now it is fun.

As for the 4. 10 gears, I guess that it depends on how much weight you tow, and at what altitudes. I tow up to 20,000 GCVW, and find the 3. 54 gears to work fine, I especially like the fact that when I'm really heavy, and pulling a hill, if I need to drop out of O/D, I still can run 70-75 MPH in third [direct gear]. If I had 4. 10 gears, I may not have to drop into direct as often, but I would be more limited in speed. Personal preferences I guess.

Hope this helps, Greg L
