I am scheduled for a complete DTT transmission rebuild in a couple of weeks. I am curious to know, those of you that have had it done already do you ever still have the TC lockup problem? Mine is beginning to show it's behind again with the unlocking. I replaced the batt. 's a month ago and the problem went away, but it seems to have come back. I know that I could try to take the wires out of the loom to the TPS, but If the DTT upgrade will fix the prob. I think I'll wait it out.

TC Lockup

I've never had any TC lockup problems like your describing, but I do love my FULL DTT transmission! You've made a good decision that you won't regret!

:D :D

F-15I Ra'am, What "mods" did you have done? Did you get the full DTT transmission or just the upgrades?

Thus far I haven't tried to disassemble the TPS and clean, nor have I pulled the wires out of the loom, so I haven't given up hope yet. I did change the 6 yr old batts. and the prob. went away for a few weeks only to start back this morning.

KRS, I see you're in WA. , lucky you. You can ( could ) run right up to the man himself. I'm driving to Chips Transmissions in Sieverville,Tenn. on the 11th for the install. Only about 5 1/2 hr drive each way. (Will that qualify me for a dieselhead yet?)

;) Gonna be installing DD3's before the trip up too. Oo.

I have a non-TDR member going up with me to get his '00 transmission done up too.

F-151 Ra' am,

Give us a call and we will give you a hand, fighting electrical issues are a tough. Florencio, Bill designed noise filters about a year ago and for guys like you where the Chrysler tsb does not apply. That may help you, back when you did your update kit there was no such thing as the noise filters then. Give Bill a call i am sure he will send you one to try.

Stefan, I have tried to stay away from the dealer as much as possible. The local "boys" leave a lot to be desired as mechanics. I have read where some people have not had very good luck after a reflash.

What exactly does the reflash do? I imagine it changes some parameters or values. The idea has just been hard to swallow paying the dealer $65 and possibly do no good. You obviously have more experience than I, and if DTT says it'll most likely be a perm. fix, I'll be more inclined to follow through with the reflash.

TSB 18-02-99

-Erratic Torque Converter Clutch (TCC) Operation (5. 9L Diesel Applications)

Models: 1998-1999 (BR/BE) Ram Truck

NOTE: THIS INFORMATION APPLIES TO VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH A 5. 9L 24-VALVE DIESEL ENGINE AND AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION BUILT BETWEEN JANUARY 1, 1998 AND DECEMBER 18, 1998 (MDH 0101XX & 1218XX)

Discussion:

This bulletin involves selectively erasing and reprogramming the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) with new software (calibration changes 98call2 & 99call4)

Symptoms/Condition:

Some vehicles may experience a surge like condition while in 4th gear. This maybe caused by the Torque Converter Clutch (TCC) unlocking and locking when it should be consistently locked. The cause of this erratic operation has been identified as electrical noise from the Throttle Position Sensor (TPS) or Alternator.

It has worked for a lot of trucks that have had it done. Not every one but most that we know of. It has taken some guys a couple of times before it took but in most cases once was enough.

Hope this helps.

TSRAM,

I'm going to Chips this weekend to give them the truck mon am. Seem like a nice bunch of guys over the phone. We are rv'ing at the River Plantation RV Park about 100 yards from Chips. Stop by if you get a chance, we will be there till the 8th (friday), I know you are doing the 11th, but plans change sometimes.

I am REALLY looking forward to getting the transmission to where it should be!

On the diesel head award, I am 40 miles south of Disney World in central FL. MapQuest has 714 miles. This is the closest DTT installer to me.
