DTT Installation Options

Looking for options guys... ... ... ... ... ... I bought a complete rebuild kit (new in boxes) including a torque convertor from a fellow TDR member for my 93. I've phoned DTT and they have no installers anywhere near me; so I can either remove the transmission package it and crate it to DTT or take a chance with a local transmission shop and hope they know what they're doing. Or drive out west to have DTT install their products.



What would you do???

New DTTs

After Tracy and I both watched John at Chips Trans in Tn build both of our DTT's I would let the DTT trained tech do it. But to be fair all I do to my trans is change fluid and adj the bands so I'm not an expert in anyway.

from my experience with "typical" transmission shops, i wouldn't take my dtt-built transmission to them for anything!



if you have some time, pack your bags and enjoy the trip out west. the left coast is a wonderful place to explore! are there no dtt approved shops in the u. s. a. just below you that may be closer than the coast?



otherwise, box it and ship it.

Hey guy..... you're finally gonna hook up the HP to the wheel's...



I guess my suggestion is like most, budget related... . if you can poney up for the work have it done right. Either have them do the checking/testing/setting and assembly OR come visit us here in BC.

The other option is to find out if DTT has time to walk a shop thru some of the things that they want especially set and talk to an installer who atleast know's which end of the garden hose the water come's out...



Just a thought here... . boy are you going to like the change...

After talking to the folks at DTT and putting some feelers out at the local transmission chain type shops and their ridiculous quotes, I've pretty much ruled out anything local. All I've heard from the locals is ... ... ... . "it's an expensive fix, parts are hard too find"... ... ... Of course I let them give me a quote and it's up in the thousands of dollars range, then I tell them I have all the parts required and their quote only drops by a couple hundred dollars. ... ... I don't think so!!!!!!!!!



The DTT folks told me the closest shop to me is in Michigan somewhere.



So, it's either drive it out there prior to making some arrangements with DTT or ship it. I do love the drive to the West coast, only been out that way a few times and haven't done it in two years.

I have a good trans person here local not counting myself. But your looking at 1100 miles one way.

Ask CGauthier he drove down in one day. Talk about a tired puppie when he got here. :-laf



I've got about 25 rebuilds of 727's under my belt also. I do have the tools to do it.

Just curious, where and what is the name of the shop in Michigan?

When I contacted DTT they will contact the dealer/vendor of your choice and "Literally Test Them" to determine if they are responsible engough.



I contacted my local vendor and he has no problem with this.



I also contacted another dealer/performance shop locally and they recomended only installing a BD unit. Whatever... ...

If my engine would actually HOOK to the pavement I cannot even imagine the amount of OPACITY that would ensue. I cannot see the cars behind me now I'd probably need three turbos :-laf

I think if you have someone local do it's a crapshoot IMO.

My son had a local install his BD parts... results were marginal at best. Now after the third time it's pretty good.

Marty: I am not sure where it is but you could contact DTT and they will tell you. I didn't ask.



Phillip: I think CGauthier sold his truck. We were supposed to hook up one of these days and he disappeared. I haven't seen him post in awhile. He did say that they weren't enough zeros in "cool" to describe you ... ... quite the compliment I thought and I'm sure well deserved. I've driven a lot further for less so I might have to take that into consideration. I do have a car to pick up in Kansas..... eventually



GL: DTT did indicate they would be willing to walk someone through the steps to ensure a proper rebuild but I thought to myself the last thing I need is some ego maniac being instructed by another expert... ... ... . can you imagine being told how to do your job!!!!
