I have been very happy with my DTT. Bill Kondolay sure knows his stuff and a real straight-up guy. I pull a 11,000lb. Warrior and haven't had a problem and the difference is night and day.

Buy American made products, where your money goes to other american guys and gals paychecks. I would have, but BD was the only one makeing the best quality parts at the time I had mine installed, now everyone makes very good products and It will be american made next time, if this one ever gives up. Not too sure about Dunrite products though, have not researched them in a long time.

WOW :--) a civil forum on trans. builders. I'm very proud of all of you :) :)

I went with DTT, 2+ years ago and am very satisified :D

All the postings above, have great advice. Call the venders

and see how they "feel" to you. If your not comfortable with

one, try another.

Look at it this way. If any of the venders listed above were putting out a really inferior product, they'd be lambasted constantly on this forum and wouldn't last too long. Go with you

gut feeling after talking with the trans pros and have fun... .

That is a sort of rude thing to say. If other nations did not buy from the US then where would they be as well? Everyone needs to be supported. We are a canadian lumber dealer and if we did not buy from the US then there would be no trade which would lead to an abundence of wood in the US and in turn drive the price down to move the lumber and put less money in the loggers pockets. Trade is what makes the world go round. How do you think we feel when people buy from China cheeper then we can and sell under our noses and we loose business? It strives us to do better.

I would rather have DTT parts in my truck, and KNOW they are going to work, then buy from someone I'm unsure of. :)

Plus I did not buy directly from DTT, I bought them from the local vendor that does DTT who is in Texas, and did my install, James Northem. :)

Keep the thread on topic or I can almost guarantee that it will get locked just like the rest of them.

If you have a good experience with a product, by all means, post your experience.

DO NOT badmouth or post negative things about any other company.

Lets keep this one open.

Your post/sig does not say what has been done to your Ram. Might also want to consider contacting your HP vendor... typically, they have tried or seen quite a few variances and mine have a direction to point you in.

See my sig I am have no stake in this or any auto trany thread and have never even read one before till this one, but wonder why truthfull opinion/experience with a company is not encouraged? Only "good" things can be said, this doesn't really help the person trying to make an informed choice. Not every person can be totally happy with what they got every time can they? There has to be a down side at least once in a while.

Off topic but honest question

Sounds like the members have grown up a lot. Also sounds like people are happy with both products. I personally don't care which one you purchase (check my sig), I just want you to be happy.

I'm going to say this and I actually feel very offended to have to clarify and even comment but i do feel i have to. Bill's business partner is American and both he and Bill agreed that our DTT components would be made both in Canada and in America. using whoever could deliver the best service and product.

When you buy parts from DTT you are actually buying from over 23 different manufacturers that we use for different processes in the manufacturing of our parts. 18 of which are American , 4 are Canadian. The only 2 companiesthat we buy from that gets thier components built overseas are Sonnax, and Chrysler themselves.

If we were to breakdown our transmission components item for item, you would find that DTT has more domestic manufactured components than anyone in the market.

For what its worth, DTT spends thousands of dollars each year working side by side training American builders in Bills shop for FREE how to properly rebuild these heavy duty aftermarket transmissions. Most of his builders are quite intense and serious enough to take the time to take off work, fly up here , pay their hotels & air fares and expenses, they are pretty serious about what they came here to learn.

It is Bill's philisoophy that whenever possible if you use a good locally trained builder is a huge advantage as they have a vested interest in ensuring your truck has many trouble free miles vs going to a shop have a full unit installed where they have no liability for the workings of the unit. DTT is pretty proud of our builders as most of these guy when they leave here have solid diagnostic skills and become excellent rebuilders not parts changers. For those of you that know of some of our DTT installers you know they are also modied Dodge Driving guys themselves who started out as customers looking for good trannys for their own trucks.

We do ship out full units for guys that are installing their own or using a personal shop they trust and or are too far from installers.

To tflower, we have 2 really good guys in your state approved to build. Ultimately the choice has to fit with what works best for you.

I think we should all be proud of who we are and where we come from but remember a lot of peoples jobs also depend on international trade and services.

I agree with you Craig, in a perfect world this should happen. But unfortunately when things like this happens it gets abused by some and information gets falsefied or bent out of proportion. With this being such an info source for us all it is imperative that the info always stay legit. Secondly, this could be a major liability for the owners of this site. WHile I wish there were a way we could share both the good, bad and the ugly on the forums I believe the right move has been made to keep everything cohesive. I guess if any of us feel the need to rant theres PM's or email, or the good ole phone! Just my $. 02

To reiterate the guidelines that are posted at the top of the forums here they are:

Enough already! None of this discussion is productive. People on both sides of this fence think that their side does no wrong and the other side does. The one thing that I am convinced of is that will NEVER change! Everyone needs to worry about their side of the fence and stay out of the others. NOTHING on this site fosters the level of discord, emotion, and anger that automatic transmission modifications do. I don't know why and don't really care - I just know that is the case.

We've tried time after time after time to get people to stick to the FACTS and keep out of personal attacks - and it comes back EVERY SINGLE time. The sponsorship issue will never go away in the minds of some. The problem on our side is what defines sponsorship? With each person you would ask there would be a different definition of it. Therefore we make no difference in the rules as they apply to people sponsored by a vendor and general users. That isn't going to change and it's pointless to debate it. We do hold vendors themselves to a higher standard and neither side likes it. Both feel that we apply the rules only to them and not the other side - which isn't the case.

The only solution I can come up with to stop this is to institute a rule that when it comes to automatic transmissions if a post is started about ATS trannies ONLY those with ATS trannies or stock can post to it. If a post is started about DTT trannies then ONLY those with DTT trannies or stock can post to it. Likewise with BD, Suncoast, Goerend, or others. I find it sad that it has to come to this but I don't see any other workable option based on the track record. These battles have been hashed out over and over again and nothing has come out of them other than people being ****** off and driving users away from the site. From here on out we will be deleting posts based on this policy. If you see a post that falls under this policy DO NOT fire back at that person - simply report the post and it will be taken care of.

If a post is asking a general transmission question you can post how your transmission modification works - but DON'T discuss the other side AT ALL. Posts WILL be deleted with no notice that do not meet this standard.

I'm sorry it has to come to this.

This thread would fall under the part that is bolded. If you have personally had a problem with a manufacturers product is ok to post. Talking about another vendors transmission that you do not and have not owned is not. This policy has worked for close to 5 months. Let's keep it up.

Craig
Craig, another problem with negative comments on auto upgrades has been folks bad mouthing their experience here instead of with the vendor. Most of the time the vendor would have happily worked out the problem quickly without question had he been contacted.

Another thing that happens is that a person brings on the problem by his own doing and tries to blame it on the vender.

You wanted to know which one ATS or DTT.

I can tell you how I made my personal decision but you will have to decide what is important to you and what you feel comfortable with.

In the hazardous materials emergency response field I was taught to find at least three independent sources on how to handle a chemical emergency. These independent sources should agree on the behavior of the chemical and the major aspects of cleaning up the chemical release safely. The three independent source rule is great logic and a sound method for making many other decisions also. So I applied it to the process of finding a transmission vendor. The goal was to find consensus among the companies you are considering. I knew the odds of making a sound decision were in my favor if I could find three transmission re-builders who agreed on some of the controversial issues. The following two issues were important to me; your issues may be different, but the method is still the same.

1 Qualify the sources.

Which of the transmission vendors on my list actually manufacture the torque converters for the transmissions they rebuild? Which vendors only install what someone else makes for them? In my view being able to build the stuff that goes inside is a big plus.

2 Settle the torque converter clutch issue.

How many of the major transmission re-builders put more than one lock-up clutch in the torque converter? How many just have one?

How many use a billet cover?

I called four of the major transmission builders out there and found the consensus I was looking for. Then I had to decide who of the remaining three would rebuild my transmission. That decision was hard because all three remaining companies are good and build sound products.

I chose ATS because they took the time answer all my questions. They are also qualified to do the other modifications I needed. I set up an appointment, drove the truck in stock and drove it out bombed the way I wanted it. If I had to make the decision again I would go with ATS without hesitation. The transmission and torque converter have done everything they said it would do. The injectors, exhaust system, and turbo have also proven to be money well spent. The truck is way too much fun to drive. :D

Make your choice based on what is important to you and good Luck.

I would like to add to my post as to why I made the choice I did. Mine was first based on the top guys in the country running the DTT if they could hold down 700+ HP then my 450 er should be no problem as a daily driver. That made my mind up over 2 years ago when I first got the truck. I had to save from that time on to last spring when I got my trans done by DTT's installer here in ontario Canada.

The second thing besides all the praise it got was the fact that they have pretty much re engineered the entire trans in the truck. Look at the different parts that are totally unique to the DTT trans. You have the 4. 4 ratio lever which is only theirs to stop the 2-3 bind up shift. You have the DTT servo the DTT ACCUMULATOR PISTON the DTT Billet Pistons and pressure plate changes the front clutch packs from 4 to 5 frictions, and although you they may not makes certin parts in house they are made to Bill's specifications and designed by him.

These things helped me along to make my choice on the transmission I probably didn't know 1/2 as much about my truck as I do now thanks to the TDR and DTR I have learned a great welth of knowledge about my truck and I try to educate others to the best of my ability on how to do things properly the fisrt time and avoid costly mistakes.

For me the DTT as I have said before is the 3rd trans I put in my truck the first 2 were local builders who though there stuff would hold give it 20,000 KM and out to lunch again. I made my choice with DTT because when I talked to Shanti on the phone it was evident that they do business 1 the way I do business and 2 that the trans would be the last thing on my mind.

I also have other experience with the company when I got my first trans done locally It had a transgo shift kit which had terrible problems and I called up Bill after spending no loot in his shop ever he helped me out over the phone to get things working what kind of person would do that. I promised Bill that day I would buy his trans and I came good and so did he on the best BOMB I have ever done to my truck!

SUNCOAST

One company I have noticed not here is Suncoast. They have excellent quality and outstanding customer service. Almost all the racers at the Div 2 race last weekend were running Suncoast. The one guy that broke was running a new Allison upgraded with Suncoast, and Joe from Suncoast towed it to Florida with his OWN truck to the factory to tear it down and find out what went wrong. How cool is that?

I have run Suncoast in mine for 8 months now, never a problem. Jeff Garmon's Dakota AND the drag truck both run Suncoast, as well as three Jeff-built twin-turboed trucks, all almost 600HP at the wheels.

Check them out at SuncoastConverters.com and see what you think. Suncoast also uses Billet Covers, multi-disk converters, and has a 3-year/unlimited mileage/unlimited HP warranty on all there stuff. You won't be disappointed, I know I wasn't.

Good recommendation

A fine company and well worth anyone's consideration. They also have the skill and knowledge necessary to manufacture the torque converters they install in their transmissions. Suncoast was one of the three remaining companies on my list. As I said in my post above choosing one from the final three was hard.

Single Disk Converters

Did I tell you'll that my plan ole' 89 converter didn't even have the paint change color on it when I pulled it, what would happen to a converter if it were slipping when I locked it at 3K RPM's... . that's Max T/Q and 670 Hp at that point..... Heat right! 37K and a year and a half ago I was at 250 HP, now look were I'm at with the power and all were done on the same transmission and it lasted until I sheared the teeth off of the STOCK Hub! There are not many trucks out there with close to or over 700 HP..... we test everything to the hilt! Don't usually post on these but it's going to get locked anyway!
