Hey All,

Curious on the 89% 90%..... ratings on DTT converter, What does the % represent anyway? Not sure what the range of percent available is eather.

Thanks JJ

I believe the % has to do with amount of "stall" the convertor has. I do extremely heavy towing so I have the 89% TC. If your not going to do a lot of heavy towing go with the higher %.

The ratings are the percent fluid coupling that Bill measured during the design process. transmission input shaft speed divided by engine RPM. It was measured under full power with his modified test truck.

Fluid coupling ratings are variable and depend on many factors like engine HP, RPM, load, gear ratio, fluid viscosity, etc.

Engines with less HP, more RPM, less load or higher (numerical) gear ratio, will have a higher fluid coupling than advertised.

Of course, the opposite is true as well.

That makes it nearly impossible to compare ratings from vendor to vendor unless a standardized test is used. So far one hasn't been established. The normal converters you'll see advertised from DTT are 89%, 91% and 93%. There are some minor changes they make within each converter to give them many combinations depending on what the customer needs or wants.

Normally, your installer or someone from DTT will help you select the converter that best suits your needs.

I hope that helps.

Thanks Chris

This helped, I have talked with DTT on the phone and the local installer in Colorado. Going threw the process...

Looks like 89% "H" for me......

With the altitude, and 3. 54 gears . Still talking about the VB.

I'm going to meet the installer tomorrow and take a spin in his truck with the firm shifting tow VB in a 89% H.

jjohn, I run an 89 and towing valve body on my truck and love it. When you say Colorado installer are you talking about Bob Berends ??? If so he is a great guy and does excellent work. You are welcome to ride in mine sometime if you'd like. It's the best change you can do to your truck in my opinion. :D :D :D

Hey mlockner

Yes it's Bob, I'm Meeting him tonight in Greeley. Also thanks for the offer I would like to take you up on that, I work in Golden and live in south weld county.

well I learned a lot about DTT in the last couple of days... Thanks Bob and Mike for letting me drive your trucks.

I shouldn't have done it, but Thanks. I understand that Bombing illness a whole lot more now.

"To have it" "is to know it"

They say it only takes one time at the pipe to get hooked on crack, but some say I'll just try it once  ... . I can handle it... maybe just a little taste see what all the fuss is about!

I just happen to have an EZ installed and new 275's in a Box waiting for transmission work... I feel so transparent and corrupted!

Here is an email I sent yesterday to Piers... . Your opinions welcomed

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hello all,

I have been talking and reading trying to decide my "next steps" for the perfect setup for my truck.

Currently I have these additions to my...

2002 CTD, 47RE-Auto, 3. 54 gears

Gauge's DiPricol fuel press, boost 0-35, EGT, Trans Temp.

4 inch exhaust.

BHAF with SS heat shield.

EZ installed.

275RV new in the box - un-installed for after transmission work.

Making arrangements for DTT 89% "H" with Tow Valve body.

Usage is 95% daily driver some towing in the 8500lbs range in the mountains.

Because I live at 5K feet and drive between 5K and 6. 5K+ feet daily and a great deal of Denver traffic, smoke control is important to me.

I have decided on the PDR HX35 but am unsure if the $650 includes the exhaust housing? either way I am unsure if I should get a 12cm or 14cm waste gated or not?

I will probably want try larger injector down the road if smoke is manageable with the 275's maybe even more or different electronics and a cam down the road after saving some more $$'s

If the turbo will support 350HP what boost numbers are we talking with 275's or larger mid-range 80hp type injectors?

am I on the right track?

Also are there any books that explain turbo air flows, how different injector effect turbo lag, and how to make this performance parts balancing act work the first time?

I've driven a truck with a Tight DTT transmission (89%/TowVB) large injectors EZcomp box and a PDR HX40 at my altitude... great truck but to much smoke for my Denver traffic driving. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for your time

JJ

Jim,

I've ran both the 12wg and the 14wg on a HC1 turbo, they spooled quik but both got hot at the top end, when i switched to a PDR HX35 i put on a 16cm it spools just as quick and run a heck of allot cooler thru the whole power range, just a thought you might want to try, good thing is the 16's are cheap.

Hey Rick

It's that pesky 5000 feet and up that concerns me. "I don't know" but going from a 9cm to a 16cm at this altitude seems like a lot?

especially with a tighter transmission and bigger injectors. What altitude are you at.

Jim,

Probably could get a little smokey, i have'nt had my 16 out that way yet but the 14 did OK up to about 8000 ft then started smoking pretty bad off the line but cleared up pretty quick, i'm heading out that way in sept so i'll see how the 16 does... ... ... Rick
