Decided that transmission must be juiced up.

Does anyone with a DTT trans/vb/tc have any before/after dyno #'s or "SOP meter" results. I searched the old posts and got some good info but would like to see if there are any new results. Trying to figure out what I should expect from the trans mods.

Thanks, SP

I agree Night and Day difference!

Just flew home from Arizona(left truck there:{ :{), on the trip down the Truck was incredible, the power is getting to the ground now, trans temperature stayed cool on long climbs, befrore the 89%DTT converter the trans temps would climb pretty high, I used to have to back out of it a little because of trans temp, now I only have to worry about EGTs.

It made as much difference as replacing the injectors.

I concur...

The comparison is, as mentioned twice already, literally day and night.

Keep in mind this is my opinion now, and you should have a good talk with your installer and make sure you're honest with them in terms of what you are going to use it for, and what kind of HP you have and are aiming for... . very important. .

I ran the 91% TC/towing VB(firm)/full transmission rebuild.

I dyno'd at 225. 2 HP @ 2200 RPM with the 91.

I found that this was a bit to light in the HP dept. to make effective use of the TC at lower speeds/RPM. It would take a few seconds to get enough RPM to really work well for me. For example, I'd go from 0 - 35 MPH feeling like it was being held back, but then..... HOLY SMOKE!!!

Hang ON. !!

So, when I put some weight in it, and stopped on soft soil for example, it held me down a bit too much. Again, once rolling it was awesome !!

My top end went up dramatically. The pull all the way thru OD was darn near like a stick transmission. My first brake stand with about 4psi and release was darn right scarey... . It smoked all the way into and thru OD !!!

I now have an 89% in. The difference is now I get faster spool-up, and start to pull sooner with the engine being "held back" alot less because I get some more RPM.

Now as I understand it (willing to be corrected here) the difference is only about 125 RPM between the two. I get just a bit more RPM off the line which gets me rolling sooner.

What you give up is a bit (I stress a BIT) of the top end. It is not quite as dog nuts aggressive pulling at the top end... . like above 65 MPH. It still pulls hard, the EGT's show it too. It's just not quite as positive as the 91 in the upper end. That's ok with me.

Ok bare with me I'm almost done.....

When I had the work done at DTT, Bill swore up and down that I, like nearly everyone else, would go after more HP pretty quick.

I promised him I would not, other than some basic tweaking and tuning, my setup was done.

He just smiled and shook his head. . uhummm...

In my opinion guys like nascar mark are making enough HP to run the 91 effectively from the stop light, or the track lights.

If all I did was highway/freeway, I'd stay with the 91, but much of my driving is around town with a bit of highway, and packing weight in soft soil, mud, etc. when hunting/camping.

So, that's it... . I'd never go back to anything other than a setup like this. Anything less and you're leaving way to much HP "on the table" instead of sending it to the ground.

just curious

Does it make sense to have a new 89% installed into a not so fresh stock transmission with 190K miles? Or am I looking a bigger bucks for a total rebuild??? BTW what kind of $ are we talking here... ... more or less???? baron

Ok, I couldn't take it any longer. Set up the transmission work with Massdiesel last night. Due to the mileage it's going to need a bit more work than a younger transmission. All new clutches, bands, seals, etc. The only problem is that it's going to take 2-3 weeks to get the valve body delivered. :{ :{ :{

Can't wait to finish off those rear tires:D
