ok in a few weeks i will finally have my DTT transmission. my question is how many of you guys out there are running billet input/output shafts and drum is it worth the extra cash for them. i plan to eventually be in the 450 hp range plus some nitrous. i hardly ever tow i have had the truck 3 years and towed for the third time today i do not sled pull either and i will ocasionally race the truck. your opinions would be appreciated, im a poor college kid and have saved for quite a while to get this thing and 600 bux a shaft plus drum is quite a blow. thank you for your input.

If your goingto be running it hard, def get the input and billet drum. If you cant swing them all,the output is the one id skip,if your not powerbraking in 4wd to drag race, dont get it,if you are, your taking a chance not getting it. IMO the drum is a good investment,it strenthens the weakest link in the trans,it will also add life to the trans, and gives you a "cushion" in case you ever put more hp into it,or tow heavy someday. Id get it without question.

For sure get the billet input. The rest would be a good idea if you can aford them. I broke a early billet input in my 97. The later ones are much stronger. But still the one I broke was far stronger then the stocker. I will be adding output and drum later. Also I might add that when I broke my input it trashed the TC and pump. Plus the whole trans had to be tore down and cleaned.

i just went through the same questions you have yourself. they dont make a billet output shaft for the 94-95 trucks. when i asked stefan about the drums he told me that jetpilot's truck made 886 rwhp without one in the truck. third gear might be the weakest link but it can hold over 800 hp. i did the input shaft so i could launch with boost. i was told not to go over 25 psi on boost on a launch. hope this helps.

yes very much so thank you however, how do you launch with boost with an auto do you stall it i have to wrap mine out to about 2800 to make about 12psi and i dont know if my brakes can hold that ive never tried

Building boost

JK, once you get a good torque converter you will be able to build boost with only about 17-1900 rpm with the brakes held, any more than this and it feels like the engine is going to break loose from it's mounts and or the frame is going to wind up like a pretzel. You'll see.

Personally if you think you may get the HP bug bad [most of us do], I'd go with all the billet parts you can afford right now. Otherwise you will just be paying labor again to get them installed when you break the stock parts.

A billet input is a must, a billet drum is a good idea if you are even thinking about twins or getting into pulling ever.

Hope this helps, Greg L

A little story

I too got bit buy the HP bug too, when I first started doing this stuff there was nothing avaliable for the trannys except cryo parts and the first 5 clutch update so I got all the parts except the cryo input and pushed that setup from 250 to 670 hp and that's were the stock input shaft/hub let go, actually took the teeth off the end of the hub... ... . something that wouldn't happen to the billet one, I don't have the billet drum for a few reasons, one is it wasn't avaliable and two I can't afford it and the going back into it price right now, but mine is doing fine to date, I'd have to agree with others to buy what you can afford as the extra money to get an up isn't as high as the money it takes to put it in later.
