Just before we left on a long road trip with the 5'er I had the transmission rebuilt (3rd time) with the DTT triple disc. I noticed that when the transmission shifts from 3rd gear (direct) to 3rd gear lockup it locks up with a jolt that rattles your brain.

The same thing happens when it changes into overdrive but I can control that by first turning off O/D, accelerating to 2300-2500 rpm, switch the O/D back on and as I do so just lift off of the accelerator. It goes in real smooth.

Apart from the severe jolt I feel, I am concerned that something will break -like an input or output shaft.

Does anyone have a suggestion for controlling the 3rd gear lock up? Is there any adjustment in the valve body for this?

Thanks and regards,

Richard

at last someone that's had the transmission built more than me . did you have the shift kit just put in or has it been in before ? that's the problem I have had since installing the shift kit. don't think I would do it again .

Champspa, I had the DTT transmission mods done with 12,000 miles on the clock about 9 years ago. 1,200 miles later I began having problems which was due to the governor solenoid/pressure sensor. By the time I got home (about 3,000 miles later) I had to have it rebuilt again. The following year we went to Alaska hauling our 5'er and the week before the trans. didn't feel quite right. It seemed like it was hanging up just before shifting. On the way home I took it into DTT at Abbotsford for what I thought was going to be a routine oil change and band adjustment and ended up having the whole unit rebuilt again with a new TC! (I have to say that Bill K. knows how to take care of his customers)!

This last time I had some really squirrely things happening which made me think it was electrical related. transmission shop said it needs new TC so I had it replaced and a rebuild. I have to say that the oil coming out was clean and no burnt smell to it. As far as a shift kit I have a DTT modified valve body not sure if that is quite the same thing. When you add all this up, plus 2 lift pumps and 2 VP44's I would never buy another Dodge.

Richard

The last rebuild was a local shop. They also did a previous rebuild, I have a call into Bill K. but he hasn't responded yet. Thanks for letting me know it can be adjusted, I will pursue this with the transmission shop.

There are many variables that can be inserted into the question of performance quality, durability, and reliability by the transmission builder.

my original transmission lasted 115k then went while hauling my tractor, second one lasted withing a thousand miles of the first went the same except I rung the main shaft, and I'm still on the third . I'm trying to keep this one . I guess it's hauling heavy but it's only 17k. for the tractor and trailer another 7. 5k for the truck.

I just got back from having a full rebuild by DTT in Abbotsford, and I'm having the same "jolt" going into lockup. I thought the trans. was going to blow a couple of times, but it seems to be softening up. Scared the #%@* out of me the first time. I have'nt contacted Bill yet, so I'm eagerly awaiting the response he gives to you. My "guess" is that he builds them pretty tight, and they take a bit to break in and soften up. Keep us updated, please.

SAronson - I put a call into Bill on his cell phone last Tuesday I think, and I am still waiting. I guess he doesn't want to talk to me! I did speak to Shanti about it and she said that the triple discs do shift a bit harder than the singles. We are off again tomorrow with the 5'er so I'll see how it goes. I have had other issues with the truck such as Drips On Driveway, Grease Everywhere. :-laf:-laf:-laf Got that problem sorted, seems like it was the washer on the drain plug. When I get back I'll go back to the transmission shop and see what they can suggest.

Good luck on your phone call! I wish you better luck than I had!!

Keep us posted please,

Richard
