Intermittent power problem EZ

New UNI Filter for the Scotty Air System

well the long journey finally came full circle today with the finished install of these bad boys. I must say once again laser bob did an awesome job and everything is very impressive. The only flaw is an oh so slight leak which will be fixed in the near future i just wanted to make sure that i got to drive it. The installs seemed to take longer then anticipated but anyone who knows anything about these trucks knows that that's always the way things go. I can't believe how loud that whistle is now. It's sweet. It's been snowing the last 2 days so i can't really let them loose like i wanna unless i put her in 4wd it's almost silly when the roads are wet i can't keep her on the road to save my life. I can't wait to see how they do when it's dry. the boost gauge rises in a hurry that's for sure. I'm just glad ther now i'm no longer reading posts of m lockner and mike bragging them up while i sit in the prizm. That's not even right to do to a guy. I got a couple pics and hope to go to the dyno in greeley here soon. i'm gonna wait for to see availablity so i can keep the same operator on the same dyno. I guess they still need some fine tuning but i can't believe how intense it is now already. Can we say 700 hp it'll be close i'm sure.

i'm having a hard time posting the pics since they are 5. 1 megapixal they are too big anyone know a quick way to get them down to size or i can email them if you got the addy

To resize the pics, open them up in what ever picture editor you use. Then find the image size option and change the size to 500 pixels wide. Save the pic as another name jpg - medium(6) size. That should make them small size and still look the same on the Internet.

yeah i don't know what happened but i uploaded them to attachments and then tried to post them and it wouldn't let me. Anyway with just the injectors and twins and xcellerator i threw down like almost 600 on a dyno jet and it's too bad that i didn't run a load dyno test but now that just gives me a reason to go again haha. I'm sure if i can get boost on the machine like i can in the street then i'll be great If I can get that all to work properly it'll be good.

finally

finally got a few pics posted i will be getting the picture cd later today and then post some more later thanks

they won't say i asked everyone involved and they don't wanna let the cat out they run good they look small but they seem to do just fine i haven't had a chance to go to the superflow in greeley yet but it's looking possibly tuesday or wednesday and then i'll be on a dyno in which i can build substantial boost and see what i actually gain performancewise. I like the drivability in town that's for sure.

Whats the hose from the wastegate? -- Boost input?

Gotta love a big ol' honk'in external wastegate!

the way i understand it is when boost builds in the manifold then it begins to flow up the hoses over to the regulator which u alter to open the wastegate and i'm not even sure about it yet but i'm gonna leave it alone for now just so as to make sure everything is ok then as i get some miles on it i may alter it a bit to see what it does. I'm looking into getting a couple more boost gauges to see if i can't measure drive pressure and individual turbo pressure also

The hose is to help fight the back pressure. I tried to go with a lighter spring (14psi) but once it opens it opens too fast and kills the boost on the top turbo. By adding a little regulated air to the top it helps hold the wastegate closed or fight the back pressure so you dont loose the boost from the top turbo. A heavier spring might be the right answer but as of yet I haven't tested it to see if it is better.

These kits are VERY sharp Nathan, you did a great job!! I've only had the pleasure of riding in Moolie's, but I'm sure all three trucks drive really well. David

P. S. When will we know what kind of turbo's these are?

Non-wastegated Schwitzer S300. Same turbo that I have on top, except mine is internally wastegated with no external gate. Wonder what the primary is. Can you get a pic of that one?

Nope try again.

It has to be. No one clamps their housings on like that but Schwitzer. It may be a variant of some kind sold by someone else (Turbonetics?), but it started life in Germany.

A lot of turbo companies use the same clamping setup as these turbos. I'm not going to say who makes them but it's not Schwitzer.

tuning

ok so we've been breaking them in slowly but have some questions about the proper adjusting of the pressures in relation to optimum performance output and i was kind of wondering about installing a couple more boost gauges , do we need to monitor individual boost levels in the turbo's and the between turbo's. I'm thinking another 60 psi and a 35 psi would cover it but i'm not sure at all and i wouldn't wanna buy something only to find out it wasn't what i needed. I'm hoping to go to the dyno with laser bob on saturday since he's been so busy lately we haven't had a chance to make it there sooner. I am hoping to get them at the optimum level just before the duramax dyno day so i can go slap a few of them silly

hoping to set them and dyno as well

well tomorrow we are gonna finally find out exactly what to set them at for optimal performance and we are also gonna find out exactly how much the hp went up. It should be tons of fun i can't wait
