I do not really think anybody was telling anybody which T/C or VB to buy or talking down to anybody. You buy a auto not to have to shift. In my opinion if ya live in the mountains and or tow hard and heavy no auto would beat a stick with a e- brake. I have a auto because I drive in traffic and get tired of shifting. Chill

Well guys i apologize for the delayed response but i was out of town helping to support May Madness, but thats a whole other story.

Now, all you guys out there reading this keep this in mind, we take the good comments and the bad ones to heart.

Lets deal with the actual question here.

2nd or 3rd gear starts, is a very common symptom, it doesnt matter whose vb or shift kit you install. Whenever you increase the transmission line pressure, the pcm knows it.

On a lot of trucks you do not need to add a resistor at all.

96-98 12 valves, over 90 % of the ones i do do not require a resistor, i have yet to do a 98 1/2 -99 Dodge ram without resistor.

These two model trucks are the most challenging to set up. 2000 & 2001 Dodge rams generally require a resistor value of between 30 ohms -300 ohms, and there is no set formula on which is the right one for each trucks as they all vary.

2001 1/2's 50% of these trucks do not require a resistor at all.

It is sometimes very difficult to convey the experience that i have to the installer or the customers. While for us it is a very simple thing to do, it is not always so in the field.

The best place to start on all truck models
is with no resitor at all.

You should do a voltage reading on pin # 31 at the pcm, to see what your starting voltage is. The voltage is checked with the key on engine off. Your voltage will vary , but most of the ones i have seen are around
5. 1- 5. 2 generally speaking on the 2000 model trucks i have found they work best at 4. 8 volts. Sometimes you have to take the voltage all the way up to 5 or all the way down to 4. 3

Finding the right resistor to achieve that level can range from 300 ohms - 30 ohms, as the value of the resistor is determined by the transducer and varies from truck to truck.

Turbo terry, we have tested many of our voltage regulators and i feel this is the solution to the resistor issue.

I want you to run a check for me and let me know your findings, on the supply voltage to our regulator, what did you supply it with, 5 volts or 12 volts.

Jackthorpe , dieselnerd, i am very pleased you are happy with your set ups, while we do our utmost, we realize we cannot please everyone or that not everyone wishes to deal with us.

While we do pretest and double check we are human and believe it or not we have no control over the UPS and FEDEX gods, or their product handling , sometimes products get damaged , however these are minor issues compared to ensuring everything is installed to our exact specifications.

A lot of our systems are new to the industry, we are the opposite of what most are doing out there, the best i can tell you guys is if you have questions , give me a call, fine tuning and tweaking these trucks can prove a challenge for those not familiar with it, and even sometimes for those who are. I think that is why people travel to us or to one of our trained installers.

Turbo,

Dont ever settle,
you dont have to. Send me your # at home i will call you when convenient for you.

About 1 1/2 months ago i had a cutomer David Bird, that bought one of our converters, he already had a bd vb that he was happy with,
about 6months after his install he started having 2 gear starts, i worked with him on that vb for 3 weeks , but we got it, we tried over 14 different resistor combinations, governor solenoid, tranducer, i finally tracked down a pcm from Lawrence at Diesel Dynamics, after david changed out the pcm, no more 2nd or 3rd gear starts.

My point is , if you dont have 2nd or 3rd gear starts from day one look for something else, but dont ever settle, it doesnt do you or I any good. I do appreciate your candor though.

Bill

Turbo lcc,

I guess your latest post became a casualty of the computer burp. I am glad your install shop found the appropriate resistor for your application, if you have need of any further assistance you know where to find me.

I agree 100% bill. Like I told them in the early part of the thread, I feel that the product isn't for me becuase of the issues that I faced. I'm not saying it's a bad product, just not for me.

I can't give you enough praise for your customer service Bill. It's very rare that you find a vendor that is so willing to work through the issues. I am VERY impressed with your customer service practices Bill, and I will continue to comment on it when asked or if I find someone who is looking for a similair setup. I will always be honest with them about my situation, but I would still recommend you to potential future customers.

Hi Mopar #ad
,All the counters will go away when the site changes over anyway. Nice to hear from you.
Hey Bob, look its getting addictive... .

H. O. Ram, if read the sixth paragraph on the BACK of the new TDR it explains the issue of screen names and post counts.

I just pulled my 7K Trailer to 4000 feet, for the first time with my DTT VB,(in 5-0'clock traffic @ 100 degrees no less)to a campground in the California mountains.
The transmission heated to 200 degrees, and that's with my turbo only putting out 10#!
I have to agree with JThorpe when he mentioned that if you put your shifter in 2nd, it will shift to 3rd at 35mph, which I don't like. But, I don't blame Bill K. because I haven't adjusted my shift points yet!

Bill, Vinnie and Darin of DTT performed the transmission enhancements on my Ram in mid January. Everything was properly setup and adjusted. . and tweaked to obtain the desired results. This included a compensation in the WOT shift point based on a known, additional power upgrade I was going to make in the near future. Bill's best guess shift point compensation for the power upgrade proved to be right on the money, as were all other adjustments. I really believe to maximize your DTT transmission upgrade, it is well worth the drive to Abbotsford BC to have DTT work their magic. He!!, John McIntyre transported his Ram across the Atlantic Ocean to have DTT upgrade his transmission (among other things). Although, not practical or convenient for most, it's still worth the effort if you can make it happen.

John - I couldn't agree with you more. My wife and I traveled 1500 miles just to visit Bill and have his setup installed. I wouldn't take back anything of that trip.

The trip was Awesome!!!!

WOW... what a great topic. The choice of valve body and torque converter for an auto trans are as important as the camshaft choice for the engine. All factors must be considered, and it boils down to personal use and habits of the vehicle's driver based upon the vehicle's use.

If you want perfection, just keep working or looking until it is the way you want it. No one deserves less than satisfaction.
