Competition Diesels in december dyno videos

Competition lets hear some dyno numbers

hey now, don't go changing things on me... . the test is to be done on a dyno... using equivelently bombed trucks... not the race track

Diesel Freak is right!!! Don't try and change things up. Same trucks, same mods, same dyno... . one auto and one manual.

We will do a "badest truck" for a purse another day. :D

Stefan, you do have an edge with the shifting thing at the track but some shifting guru will emerge to prove your theory wrong.

:D

Haven fun now;)

Jim is blowing smoke, so to speak,... he is making the power from that 24 valve.

Lets not forget Joe D either, he still has some HP to show too.

Good luck Jim against the DD guys.

Of course the manuals are king. I have one too!!!!

Two trucks of the same year with the same mods.

One Auto, One Manual

One little problem here. Take a '98 12 Valve Auto, and you get a 180 HP pump. The same truck with a manual has a 215 hp pump, which has different internals. So, the auto truck will have to have more mods to the engine for it to compete. The idea is to test the transmission's efficiency, so you must isolate it as being the only source of difference. So, what we really need is two trucks with identical engines (pumps, injectors, plates, etc) and similarly bombed tranmissions. You can't compare an SBC equipped truck to a stock auto, just like you can't compare a DTT or BD equipped auto to stock manual.

Now, I don't know if the same holds true for 24 valve engines. If DC derates the autos with only ECM programming, I think that can be easily overcome.

Scott, you can compare a stock ETC clutch against a DTT or BD modified transmission under about 375 HP.

I think you know why:p

now I hope all the auto guys realize that the clutch will come out on top... . the auto WILL lose more power in the driveline with the Convertor unlocked.

NS Sherlock!

Actually, Vaughn beat me on the Dynojet at Diesel Thunder in Spokane by . 9 BHP however, I was NOT in lockup (322. 9 BHP... would have been over 340 BHP by my calculations... more by your own estimation Cliffy... remember that conversation?).

Although I know you are just stirring the pot Cliffy, once an auto is in lockup it has EXACTLY the same power transfer capabilities. As Scott Collins stated, it will be extremely hard to have an apples to apples comparison between an equaly prepped auto and manual truck.

However, I do know this, my poor underpowered excuse for a Ram can whoop that WAAAY over tired, under geared 6-speed of yours ANY day of the week on the drag strip.

Additionally, how many of you bad a$$ 6-speed owners with the indestructable NV5600 have that pathetic NV241 (NOT HD) transfer case behind it... like Cliffy does. :D:D:D:D ROTFLMAO!!!!

..... still ROTFLMAO :D

The way I look at is who cares what your dyno # is does that make your truck look impressive to someone one the road I think not. How impressed are people going to be when an stick with more power gets out run by an auto? I find it funny that stick guys always run to a dyno instead of settleing it on the road. Dyno #'s don't mean s**t in the real world. I would rather have a fast truck on the road where it counts than a dyno queen anyday.

My truck and Sam's (Dawg 1) are very comparable in power and size would that be a good test? I will drive down to washington to race him. We both have DD2's, PE Comp, and PDR turbo's.

What are you guys going to do when I pull up beside you say hey wait we need to find a dyno?:p :p

Just a thought... ...

Why not get rid of the shifting thing and start the race at 45 mph side by side?

We did this in Vagis with Kwick Kurt's truck against an Automatic and it seemed to be the fairest way to go about it.

It was awesome dodging the trafic on the Vagis freeways. :D

I had to do a little cleanup work afterwords.

<b>Hey there  3 point take away for that low low blow:cool: Lets keep the gloves up and let's go :)

and lets not forget Cliffy is running around with his PHUCK hanging out... . I mean diablo has his PHUCK

Stefan,

You can't really compare Lawrence's truck to anyone elses... I have ridden in that truck, and it is wicked. :D He's got modifications on that thing that no one else on the board has, so for basis of comparison, there is none.

However, Mark's truck will be a good contender. :D But even that truck is in a leage of its own.

I think the contest should be between two nearly identical trucks, with practical mods. I talking about ijnectors and a box... No N20, no propane. Just good old fashioned diesel. What do you guys think? Just like with any competition, we need bopundaries of some sort here. Just a thought...

but which truck, while hooked up to a trailer and grossed out to 20,000 lbs, will be the fast truck on the road while pulling up the big mnt pass. most likely, the manual transmission equiped rig.

Well, so far it had held up to more mud, sand, and wheeling than your truck has ever seen..... :p :p :p

Ding Ding Ding

Yes John I remember the conversation

stefan

you said the road is what shows what's what. well at anything above 40mph i think i could give somebody a run for there money. except piers, john and i raced him going back to bd and he could pull me just a little bit. i don't think it had anything to do with the weight difference:D of course i was just on #2. someday i might put a auto in my truck. i will work on the track this summer but i only have a 1/8 mile track near me. my best 60' was 2 flat.

jim

Would someone please get me a bigger spoon to stir the pot with? I am getting a little bored here.

Let's get a Duraflat with the Allison, from what I hear it will hold up to a southbend, and since it the most powerfull truck, its should win hands down:eek:  At least that's what the GM site says... ... ... ... ... ... . ;)

I nominate Smokin Dave Mitchell's truck to represent us manual/clutch guys.

The volume of boost exiting Smokin Dave's stacks has been know to cause automatic transmissions to scream "uncle" just from the thought of transfering that much power:D. Any auto Rams willing to challenge Dave?

An auto in lockup up mode (that not slipping) will lose some dyno horsepower because of the drive friction of it's internal hydraulic pump and system.

I really did like the auto trans in my V-10 Ram though;).

Oh come on! If it's a RUN-WATCHA-BRUNG event, we're gonna put up too. :D

Sorry Evan, we don't have a truck that's not in it's own league.
