Dual Disc Clutch?

I've got my new DD clutch and input shaft from SouthBend sitting in my shop and I'm thinking of doing the install myself. (just like to see if I can) :)



My question is for a guy that's never done a clutch install or messed with a manual transmission is there any words of wisdom you guys can think of?



Any certain specialized tools that are needed?



I know I need to round up a transmission jack, and buy 4 quarts of the mopar transmission fluid but is there anything else I should have on hand before the install?



I also have a complete service manual as well so I'm sure there are pics of the input shaft and directions on how to install it.

Its simple as cab be D. Trust me I've done 3, and when I'm fortunate enough to be able to afford one I'll be adding a dual disk to my new truck. That, or whenever I find your dang money tree you've evidently got hidden very well! :rolleyes: :-laf



Anyways I've seen your shop and your tools I think you've got everything you will need except for the transmission jack.



take your shifter out of the top of the transmission



drop the rear drive shaft



jack up the transmission/x-fer case



remove crossmember



remove bellhousing bolts and slide the transmission/x-fer case out



be careful of the vaccum lines going across the front of the crossmember, we usually just carefully bent mine up and out of the way.



also be careful of the backup light swith, vaccum line on x-fer case, breather for the transmission, and the speedo connection for the x-fer case.



take everything thing out, replace with new SBC stuff, and reverse process. ;)



Pretty straight forward, just time consuming.



As for the input shaft... . your gonna love this... . call buckeye boy and ask him about it. I know he did his own and well..... the truck has survived so far right? :-laf

It aint too hard of a job. Make sure you have plenty of adult beverages. Take the 4x4 line to the axle off, its only 3 bolts the lines are idiot proof. I dont know if the new style shifter top clears the floor right, but on the old ones it helps if you bend the floor where it hits. When you are setting the endplay on the shafts, it is best to do it with the transmission upright. Find a pallet and stick some cinder blocks under it and you put the input shaft through the gaps in the wood. Blue Locktite is your best frind. Check your countershaft endplay while you are at it and put in the double snap ring fix for 5th synchro gear.
 
Make sure you have a few buddies helping. That's one heavy transmission/t-case combo. :eek: I was sore for a few days as was my buddy trying to get them lined back up.

I drove one today and I sure hope my pedal isn't that hard. :eek:



It's was about twice what my Fe is but not too bad. :)



If you're nice I might let you drive. Not sure if you can handle a 24valve though Undervalved boy. ;)

HA! :-laf My white truck was putting out the same #'s as your truck there shorty with 1/2 the $$ involved! :p



Who's truck did you drive?!? I told you Aarons pedal was stiff!

After about 5 times I got used to it, It's not that bad if you got some muscle to push it down. :cool: It's an older version too, and Peter said he's worked on the pedal a little, so mine should be a smidgin on the softer side.
