I'm curious as to the benefits of duals on an inline engine. On a V8 it is obvious, and I have seen headers made for inline six cyinder gas engines, which actually would seem, at least to me, to be the only way it would really help. Would appreciate any comments. JH

Duals look and sound cool. I know of a 12v with 5" duals straight out the back "no muffler"that sound nasty.

I like the 5" single. Lowers egt and turbo spools quicker with less smoke.

It would be the same because your V-block diesel's manifolds lead to one turbo, not like you can run true duels. All for looks but i like them.

Dual exhaust on the CTD is strictly personal opinion on how you want your truck to look. Personally I don't like the way it looks, I like the way the single pipe looks. Only time I would do duals is if I put stacks on.

Why is that? Too much drone? Dont like how close it comes to the brake lines? Or is it just personal opinion that a single looks better than duals?

I like my 4 inch duals, but it is as much what you like as anything. Randy

This is the answer I expected. Unless you split the exhaust manifold, as in headers, you don't get a true dual exhaust. We buy what we want. I like my Banks Technicooler, my Dyna Trac hubs, my Jacobs exhaust brake, by Banks muffler, but whether or not they ever pay me back is really not the reason for buying them.

Dual exhaust

JHenry,

Like the guys are saying, duals are strictly for looks and the different sound being out both sides. There are no performance differences between the single and the duals, just taste.

It's like the difference between the 4" and the 5". There are no performance gains between the two unless you run 450-500 rwhp and then that's where the 5" will hold the egts down longer.

Any other questions feel free to ask.

Thanks. It's pretty much what I thought. I liked my truck straight-piped, but felt it was a little loud for some of my conditions. JH

You are More than welcome to Come to the test facility Here in Fridley,I would Never compare HP to Volume Please provide some test results with your statement.

I was under the impressiong that the dual setup had more restriction due to the splitter. I know a lot of the high HP drag and pulling guys have gone from dual to single stacks

As a 2nd Gen Overvalved Guy, I love my Pro~Flow Duals  I tipped them with 4 to 5" Stainless Roll Cut tips. Yes, it doesn't do any thing for the preformace at my level of tune, But It Sounds GREAT!! :-laf

About a week ago I was just coming out of a rest stop restroom east of DesMoines. Now thats a bit of info for sure!!

Anyway over on the highway passed a beautiful coal black Dodge pulling a 5th wheel flatbed with a shipping container on the flatbed. Estimated speed about 60-65.

That pickup had the most beautiful exhaust sound as it passed by I just about pee'd my pants.

I dunno if it had duals or not but it sure was a beautiful sound,, not too loud but just right.

JHenry,

I6 or V8 on a turbo'ed diesel it'll be the same either way as the exhaust still has to power the turbo from both sides of a V8 or all 6 of an I6 engine!! Duals are great if you like them, I do and I have them. Nothing more fun than smoking both lanes from a stoplight!! As far as HP or EGT drop there isn't enough difference to matter single to duals, get them for the look and sound! The sound level is the same but the driver gets to hear it better as there is an exit on his side. As far as restriction in duals vs singles nope, none at all. The MBRP has a knife edge split in the muffler and then it goes to 2, 4 inch pipes, no way for restriction. There is a competitive company out there that claims it is restrictive but it's all marketing BS from them.

If you have any questions the members or us can answer them. Do lots of reading and you'll see what's right for your truck and you.

Please take a look at some of MBRP claims, take a good look at Jeff from MBRP post on 4 or 5 Inch. I guest according to MBRP , CAT,CUMMINS,DETROIT don"t know how to measure Volume. These companies that claim that EGTs are a good indicator of cylinder temps are wrong. I have seen cylinder temps much higher than EGT temp. Cummins has a test facility Here in Fridley MN,if you can Buy out the time schedule a tour it is well worth the effort.

Actually Two gages (at Min) are necessary to calculate Cylinder temps Post/Pre ,If your Pre is 1300 and your Post is 1100 this indicates the the engine is losing its ability to dissipate the Heat it would be good time to let off on the Pedal. Now if you see 1300 pre 800 post the engine this is fine, Now add a oil temp gage and you will have a good idea of what parameters are. Watch out for companies that sell many Product they Do not have the support or the resources to test them. Most Manufacturer claims are the extreme or max not the norm.

Although I like MBRP wave tube in the stock Ski-DOO.
