I left a question the other day but knowing computers; who knows where the question went.

I have a 2000 Dodge 2500 4x2 and I have only serviced since new and it now has 140K+ miles on it. I read a lot about lift pumps and have no desire to install a new injector pump due to lift pump failure. I was at NAPA the other day and in conversation the counter man said that his friend had a Dodge and pulled 30K lbs on a regular basis and had lift pump problems, so he put a second lift pump down by the fuel tank and has had no problems since.

Does "two lift pumps in line" sound reasonable? The counter person also says for $30 they have a LED light that will come on at about 3 lbs for the lift pump.

Your thoughts ? Oo.

Well ... the options are almost endless ... some tear out the original lift pump and replace it with a FASS system or similar, others add an extra pump down near the tank to push fuel up to the factory lift pump (pusher pump) which I think is what your counterman was talking about ... and other just mix and match to what they want.

Do a search for "pusher pump" and you will have enough info to keep you reading for a month, no matter what option you go for, a fuel pressure gauge is highly recommended ... actually make that a MUST.

I don't run a factory lift pump or fuel filter, made my own system using two Holley blue Pumps mounted near the tank running in parallel ... works for me ... 70K miles and still running like the day I put em in, fuel never goes below 10PSI ... truck has 150K miles on the original injector pump.

Moving lift pump

That is one fancy looking system you have there ! Let me ask another question obout moving the location of the pump. The pump in the present location on the 2005 is certainlyl not easy to get too. I have not looked at the service manual but will get that done,

FIRST did you run into any electrical problems when you moved your pump location. The counter person said that if you put two pumps in series (leave the original) that you had to disconnect a computer wire that had to do with sensing fuel flow. Did you have any such problem ?

SECOND the pump I bought at NAPA is a Carter and it appears to be straight forward; the idiot LED light I bought was not $35, but was $75 and has the sensor to hook into the line and the light to mount on the dash and is to come on when the pressure drops to unacceptable levels. Do you see any problems with the Carter Pump instead of a MoPar ? Information in the Carter Pump package says that a prefilter is highly recommended !

I willl do more research, but I want to know a little about what I am getting into as I don't want to drive myself nuts. I have a few problems with the thought process at times as I have cancer of the blood and my endurance is not all that hot... ... ... .

I have 140K on my Dodge, truck has never been touched except for things that had to be changed out at certain periods, i. e. water pump, belt, filters, oils, etc. .

Your help is appreciated and I must say again your system certainly looks GOOD !
