Competition 1/8 mile times

Competition Mitchellized! CAMMED & TWINNED

#1- on equally bombed/stock trucks will the dually show lower rear wheel horse power than a SRW ? i was thinking that the 2 extra tires might make a difference.

#2- and how about a 4WD vs a 2WD ? the 4WD has to send the power through the transfer case which to me would seem like a loss.

#3- how do you calculate flywheel hp/tq after knowing your rwhp/tq ? i was told to add approx 30% to the rwhp. is this correct?

What's wrong Don,325 rwhp not enough;) . Maybe we'll have to have another bombing party and get those DD2's and exhaust in there:D :D . Seems you had plenty of power to break all 4 of those rear wheels loose when we left Kauffmans. :) ... Doug

HP should be affected my a change in rotating mass. decreasing rotating mass should increase usable hp because less energy is being spent to change the angular momentum of the drive line.

In short taking off a pair of tires should net a measureable difference(increase) in usable power.

I have a quick question. I have the SPA digital gage and reset it before each run a Dyno Jet. Both times peak boost was 36psi and max EGT was 1,041*. On the street she will hit 39psi and a little over 1350*. I got 375hp and 798 ft. lb torque.

My question: Am I making even more hp and torque on the street and if so, how much more do you think I'm making? I'm guessing another 25 to 30 hp. Am I on the right track?

Gene

The reason you are able to get higher boost is the street is able to load the engine better than the dyno. Diesels require a load to produce power and boost.

You are making better power. . the question is how much? assuming you have a HX35 it probably not a 20-25 hfor 2-3lb of boost at those boost levels. you are right at the max boost level attainble w/that turbo and are getting to the point where you are creating more heat which reduces power.

I would guess at most 10 to maybe 15hp most of it due to better loading and cooling.

My truck w/DD3s and a PE C made 377/891 on the dyno and I hit right at 40psi on the dyno.

thanks mark_k.

doug,,it will be DD3's and a B1 :D and maybe "stacks" if i can talk myself out of looking at the 03's when they come out

DD3s, EZ, Exh, and a B1 should be well over 400hp. . better plan on a SBC.

injectors real soon:D

aready have the EZ and powermax3:)

i dont think (well over 400hp),,maybe real closeOo.

whats a SBC??

I think SBC is South Bend Clutch, they are only for the over-privileded that are lucky enough to have a 5 or 6 speed. :D :D :D

On a 6spd. . the PEC and DD3s are good for about 380hp 900ftlb. ETCs are supposed to resond a little better.

The b1 added to that is good for 50-60 hp. . ~430-440hp, or WELL over 400hp;):D:D

Check the dyno slips in my signature. they are before the B1.

And yes the SBC is a South Bend Clutch. If you have an auto you better call Bill if you haven't already.

I don't think the B-1 is good for 50-60 HP. From my experience you will see 25-30 HP gain from the B-1. What you will see is greatly reduced egt's.

Doug

I can't get a sold HP number because I don't have a current weight for my truck, but I make a lillte more power on PEC 1/1 than I did on 5/5 before the B1.

The extra air reduces EGTs but also builds power until you run out of fuel.

on 5/5 before I left clouds of smoke now I leave a cloud until the boos rises then there's almost no smoke. Roll on at 70mph in 6th gets a large puff of smoke then you're gone and almost none afer boost climbs. I have no doubt that I could put in stage 4/5s and not have any egt troubles.

I will just say this... . I am running DD's Super Mental injectors and I can bury my 1500* egt gauge with the box on level 5. Now my box doesn't defuel because it is the Competition version and the egt's show it. On level 4 I have not seen above 1400*.

But to say the B-1 adds 50-60 HP is too much. 25-30 is all someone will see going from the HX35 to the B-1. Those with the HX40 probably will not see much difference at all in HP, but egt's are going to be lower. Remember Kurt designed the turbo for guys to tow with not hot-rod, we just get the benefit from this.

A lot of guys are pushing HX35's past the 40lbs mark but they do loose HP because of efficiency loss, this can be made up with a HX40 or B-1. Don't get me wrong I think the B-1 is the best turbo available (thats why I own one of the first ones out the door). But turbo's don't really make HP, they just allow the rest of the components to work more efficiently.

Depends on what you consider "egt troubles". I've only got DD III's and I still see 1300° in 5x5 on the COMP. Only had a chance to do limited WOT runs due to weather. But that is 100 times better then what I would see before with HX35 ... . on the dragstrip or dyno, could peg the 1600° EGT gauge. I'm not getting my hopes up just yet because of the colder ambient temps. We'll see what happens when it gets warm out. The B1 is defintely a great turbo.

I hope to find out what the B1 does at the strip soon... . as soon as the weather coperates.

I was able to get close to 40 psi of boost at 1/1 on the hx-35. I now make 36 psi of boost at 1/1 and make more power. on 5/5 I mae 43-44psi depending on how I hold my mouth ;) and I would bet on beiing in the 430+ hp range. My gtech confirms this ball park figure.

I dynoed the HX35 at 377/891. 430-377=53hp. even if I was at 420 hp that's still a 43hp gain. I've been watching the HX40 num, bers too and it looks to me like the B1 make more power than them still.

I know the B1 wasn't intended for hotrodding . . but it sure as he!! is good at it:D:D:D

to quote Kurt "If you'd told me a turbo would do all the B1 does and I hadn't seen it myself I'd have called you a liar and a fool"

After having one I couldn't agree more.

Mark,

I know when I dynoed with DD Super Mentals and the B-1 + the rest of my mods I got 452 HP. Now I know you will turn out more now then when you were running the HX35 but I will be surprised to see more than a 30 HP gain. I may be wrong and this is just my $. 02 worth. In any case I know we have the ultimate in turbo technolgy on our trucks:D.
