Anybody out there considering converting thier 3rd gen DRW to SRW? I have found somebody that is developing a DRW fender for the 3rd gen Short Bed and would like to maybe work out a trade.

I have 4 of the stock chome wheels and BFG tires that came on my 04 with about 12k on them now. Plus the spare with 0 miles. Trade them for your dually's and spare with similar milage? Maybe kick in a few $$ too cause I only have 5 and you would be giving up 7

Yup, knew that. Chromewheel (or something like that) builds the necessary spacers for both front and rear to mount up the dually rims. They are also the ones that plan on having fenders available for the 3rd gen short bed in the next month or two.

Just hoping to get a set of wheels and tires lined up!

So... ... on a 3500 SRW, can you convert to a dual (rear only) by just adding the 4 inset/outset dual wheels/tires??

Or..... is there something else you may need?

No really, the rear axle on the DRW trucks is actually wider than the SRW trucks, the wheels may fit or may not and be too close to the frame.

the axles is the same , the dually's use spacers in the rear also.

You may want to check that, I am pretty sure it is wider, and there are no spacers on the rear.

I'm thinking I read that, and was even going to make that suggestion, just wasn't sure.

On a Chevy, the 1 ton is only a inch wider on each side, so a spacer would probably be all that is needed. But, doesn't a 1 ton have overloads & a rear stabilizer bar? I know the brakes are the same.

TDR member Greg Boardman converted his dually to SRW. he did not replace his rearend, just took the spacers off and SRW wheels on it.

I just looked at the thread about this, and the dually axle is wider! I stand corrected!

Does will this place be making a short bed dually fender for our trucks?

Cool!

Are they going to offer replacement fenders for longbeds. My brother borrowed mine and ran over a tire recap and broke my Rt. side fender.

Anyone replaced these yet, and what was the cost?

I'm thinking of converting my drw to a narrower flatbed(7') so I can have the option of going srw for everyday and offroad driving and still have the duals if I need to carry a heavy load or large trailer. I plan to add removeable fenders that will bolt on to the flatbed to cover the outside dual when installed.

Sorry!!!!

Sorry,But the DRW axels are indeed wider. Check out Members Rigs Greg Boardman's DRW to SRW conversion. The photo's clearly show it.

Mac

CONFUSED??

OK, so the DRW axle is wider, does that mean:

A. You cannot convert a SRW to a DRW without having to find a replacement axle, wheels and tires??

B. Need to add a spacer(Does this even exist??), longer lug bolts, etc... . ??

Doesn't sound real easy... .....

I would think you would need longer lug studs, a spacer & 1 ton wheels.

I have a problem with spacers, they are hard on lug studs. They can shear them off if not tightened correctly. Remember when they use to sell adapters to convert Ford wheels to Chevys, etc. ?

Dually's are hub centric so as long as there is enough axle for the wheel to sit on with the spacers, which there should be, it would not be any problem.

I know this doesn't really matter unless you are hauling a bunch in the bed or lots of GN tongue weight, and I have a SRW so I don't have anything to grind here, but it seems that I read an article in Petersons 4wheel and Offroad that stated the axle tube wall is thicker on the dually-something like 1/4" or 3/8" for the SRW compared to 1/2" to 5/8" on the DRW. Just wanted to make sure all aspects are covered.
