For model years 2000 and 2001, the factory has stepped up to the LT235/85R16 tire which has really added to the stability when carrying big slide-ins (the tires now stick out beyond the fenders).

My surfing buddy has a 99 3500 with the smaller LT215/85R16's. Can somebody please explain what the factory has done to allow for the larger tire size on the newer trucks(have they lengthen the rear axle, put a shim between the wheels, etc. ). He is interested in adding the larger tires but as he totes a Bigfoot 3000, he does not want the larger tires to rub the inside sidewalls on the duallies. Is this possible??? Thanks in advance. #ad

The reason they can put 235's on the new trucks is they changed the offset of the
wheels. I have 235's on my 99 & they work just fine. Just be careful what brand of tire
you use because even though they are the same size the cross section width vary as
much as 1. 5 in.
hope this helps
Rick

David, Rick is right, they just changed the offset to allow for the wider tires. The rim width stayed the same. I'm running Michelin 235-85's A/T,s and they work real good. Regards Pete

Thanks guys for the quick replies. I didn't realize that we were running different rims here.
