Hi guys installing factory Ram mud flaps but they supply plastic inserts that need a special tool to pull the pin out of the middle. I'll post the pic . The upper circled item is the plastic insert, the lower circled item is the tool. Any ideas where to purchase one?

Harbor freight has the correct plastic rivet tool.

I know this is a bit of a sidetrack, but I really like Harbor Freight and Northern Tools. Although much of their stock is made in China, the quality on many of their items is good and selection is great. I miss Sears. which for over 40 years was my go to for tool needs.

Anhoo, back to the thread, good luck on the install, and maybe provide some pics.

Cheers, Ron

My wife made me stop buying tools from Harbor Freight. I'm only allowed to by quality tools now rather than the Chinese junk HF sells. She says buy good stuff so you only have to buy it once.

My wife let's me do what I want when it comes to buying tools... All my Craftsman stuff still in the fight, but I've never had my HF brake bleeder, little MIG welder, nor the giant crescent or pipe wrench, nor anything else fail I bought from them. I attribute that to assessing price and quality, and amount of use.

No problem being picky though... Like I said, all my socket sets and wrench sets are old Craftsman.

Throw those factory flaps away and get ya some Duroflaps!

Way to go GB, tell him what he bought is junk, to throw it away, and buy something else. Nice.

Factory flaps are OK, they serve the purpose. I prefer the aftermarket rubber ones too, but after the fact he already purchased them, he's fine. I helped a disabled veteran buddy of mine install his plastic OEM ones and he was a happy camper... I never mentioned doing better and they still work just fine.

Paul, good luck with the install and they will work fine.

Cheers, Ron

My factory flaps are rubber as well.

You'er right, un fact I installed factory rubber flaps on my wife's 19 Ram. We have to install front and rear on everything living down a quarter mile gravel road.

My 2017 Ram 5500 CM bed came with plastic ones and after a week, the one by the exhaust melted. The dealer had a stack of various ones and let me take my pick. All were plastic, so I picked some big ones, and installed them closer to the wheels and away from the exhaust. No problems. Front ones are rubber.

Good catch.

Same here Ron we also live on about a mile and a half long dirt road and I have front and rear on my truck they help a lot

Instead of pop rivets, I've used stainless nuts and bolts sometimes. I have a pop rivet gun but I'm not a fan. I use it when that's the only thing you can use. And I don't know, but that may be the case here.

I used the side of pliers to put steady pressure on the cap portion and then with pliers pull on the stem til it pops into place. Didn't think the larger standard pop rivet gun would fit.
