Well, I have a problem with one of my O. E. general ameritrac tires on my 06 dually. I recently had my tires rotated and noticed that the tire has a slight bump comming out on the sidewall of the tire. I talk to the Service Manager at the dealer and he said to call Conti-General per the owners manual info. So I call them, they say to take it to the nearest America's Tire(discount tire) in CA, which I did, and they say that the beginning of the bubble is caused by a pot hole in the road... . I say WHAT?, it is a 10 ply "E" range tire, it shouldn't do that! Anyhow, I call Conti-General again, and they tell me to go to Sears and have them inspect it, so I did and they say MFG Defect or Pot hole... . so I call them back, and they tell me that Sears is NOT one of their reps for inspection(by this time I am getting MAD, and have driven 150+miles), so the piper will be calling on monday to see what they are really going to do for me on this, the tires have about 8400 miles on them, and 13. 32 of tread. Anyhow, I thought I would post to see if anyone else had any similar issues with those General Tires...

mine seem to be doing good. I havent ever been a fan of general tires, but they came with the rims. so I will run them till they wear out. hopefully they step up and take care of this for you.

My neighbor ran his first set 90k plus. Bought another set. Tires can get bruised in the sides where something been hit and air has gotton in between the layers. Pothole or curb. Been there done that.

Fortunately, I have not had any problems with just over 30k on mine. I rotated mine not too long ago and didn't notice anything like that, but I'm gonna double check when the temp drops and I can lay on the driveway without feeling like a fried egg :-laf

Thanks for the heads up and hope things work out for the best.

Haven't had any trouble with the truck tires, have about 16,000 miles. Have the exact same tire on 31' travel trailer, they had about 5,000 miles on them when one threw the tread, contacted General tire and they said send it to them, did so and their reply was "tire was either run low of air or overloaded". Neither was the case. I believe they have a list of standard replies like mine or "hit a pothole" and they just randomly pick one. I unloaded them and now have Michelins on the trailer. bg

I have 25K on mine. No real complaints. I think I will get another 10 to 15K out of them.

Next time, I am going with Toyo Open Country HT's...

Cheers, Bill

Mine had 39k on them when I replaced them a couple of weeks ago. Started to weather crack and also had flat spots on them about the size of a quarter. I got scared and put Michelin's on all six wheels. Difference in night and day.

I bet that cost you an arm and a leg, but Michelin is a good way to go. That's what I'll be doing about when the clock says 40K.

I have not had good results with any of tires I've tried on my Duallys except for the michelin we now are using on the 04..... I've just ordered steel wheels for all my trucks and will be changing them out to 19. 5" wheels and tires like we run on our F550... . we get close to 110K miles on the front of the truck running a Michelin RV tire and 90K miles on the rear running a retread that UPS uses on their trucks... its a Bandag all season tread design... . we've had that truck for 500K miles and I've got a new 5500 ordered to replace it...

Grizz. It was a bit steep! A tire at the tire shop getting some asked me how I can afford the Michelin's? I just told him that with the loads I pull I ask myself how I can afford not to! Also if you think tires are expensive, find out what it cost's to replace a rear fender or be broke down in the middle of the night out in the middle of nowhere!

Lousy livespan on the factory Generals. 35K and mine were gone. The Wrangler AP's that came on my '01 went 50K. The Mich 19. 5's that I replaced the Generals with have 121K on them and I checked today, all 6 have 4-6/32" left. That's good for another 7-8K or so.

The original equipped Wrangler's on my 95 DRW went 55K before I replaced them and still had a good 5, maybe 7K miles left.

I replaced my stock Ameritracs, which where wearing poorly at only 29000 miles, last December with Goodyear Wrangler GSAs, and they have been a MUCH better tire - better performance in wet, and in snow.

Watch these for sidewall separation. These came on my truck factory and started separating @ around 60,000. So did many others.

I've been getting 80,000 or so out of my $800 MasterCrafts :-laf

Not to get too far off topic, but if Mastercraft would have had a 17" tire when I replaced my Generals, I would have gone with them instead. A good tire for a good price.

That was the only other reasonably priced option I could find when my GSA's crapped out. I'm over 330,000 miles now and have been running MasterCraft since 60,000 miles.

I have about 50k on my Mastercraft tires and they are just about toast. I could have made them last longer but it wasn't until the last 10k that it was apparent they were over inflated in the rear and wore out the centers quick. My mileage is mostly commuting with no load. I now run the rears at 40psi. I just heard that Hankook make an E rated replacement for about $300. 00 less per set than the Mastercraft. I think I will check them out in a couple months when I have to replace mine.
