Mine have 39K on them. The outside wheels in the rear are down to the wear bars. The inner rear and fronts look like they both have the same amount of tread on them. I am thinking of rotating the fronts to the outside rear and then replacing the steers. Should be able to get another 15K out of the other four before I have to replace them too.

I noticed the asphalt here in town is very rutted from cars, not trucks and buses so the inside wheels ride on the rut while the outside wheels get worn from riding on the ridges. At least that is how I see the explanation for the outside wearing faster.

You don't rotate all 6?

I take the inside dual up front on one rotation, and then the outside dual up front on the next rotation?

For whatever it's worth, if you look at your owners guide, it says to rotate the front tires with the inside rear tires only. It may just be a valve stem difference.

If I remember correctly, the manual says to rotate the fronts with the inside duals, and swap the outsides left/right. No need to break anything down.

My tire dealer was originally rotating both right side duals to the front, and then both left side duals to the front. That had him breaking down 2 tires every rotation.

I talked him into moving the inside duals up front on one rotation, with no break downs. And then the outside duals to the front with 4 break downs on the next trip.

Not sure that any of it really matters, but I do like to get all 6 on the front at one rotation or another.

I rotate mine by the book every so often. Every now and then I'll move the outside duals to the inside, the insides to the front, and the fronts to the outside. I've never unmounted a tire fo a rotation. Are you guys doing that for OWL's or something?

I'll usually check tread depth and determine where I'm going to put the tires based on that. The outside duals wear faster on mine too with the right outside one being the worst. I have a bent axle that causes some funky wear. It's tweaked so the front sticks out a little further than the rear. Too much power I guess. :-laf I have 121K on my current tires so I don't think it's hurting anything too much.

That's exactly what I did when I rotated mine. Then I took the never used spare, and put it on the left front, which I documented on my maintenance log book. Next time I rotate, I'll put the spare on the right front. After that, I'll need 6 new tires and I'll keep the best original for a spare.

My Generals got replaced last Sat. at 33. 5k. Four rears were down to the wear bar, fronts were slightly better.
Local General dealer doesn't handle those tires as he said they are so crappy and just cause problems.
I replaced mine with Mich. LTX M/S.

Amazing at the differance in wear from trucks/drivers. I wasn't kidding when I posted my neighbor with his 05dually 4x4 towing 95% of time rolled his 90k plus and hunted down another 6 new ones. He was impressed at how well the factory tires did.

Yes, I saw the owners manual shows inside rear to front on the same side which would allow the outside to constantly wear more. I have only been rotating mine side to side in the back only to keep the outside from wearing too fast.

But after 3,000 mile trip with the FW and not finding time to do the last rotation at the beginning of the year I found the outside tires really worn.

The valve stems are no problem, the stems are the same and there are extensions that screw on to lengthen the rear to allow filling up with air.

For me 40K is not bad and I think they are advertised for the same by the manufacturer. That is my usual mileage from a set of tires, now if they were the harder compound commercial 19. 5s or more expensive I would probably be upset. Overall, I am happy with the OEM tires by General and the mileage I got from them. but I think I will experiment and try some Firestone Transforce HT units next. About the same price and they get better reviews online.

I think whatever works for you is okay as long as you document what you did so that the next time you rotate, you'll know what you did before. Rotating 6 or 7 tires is alway more challenging then rotating 4 or 5.
