Hi,

Just wondering if anyone has had any luck finding stock size tires for thier dually (235 80 17's) other than the OEM Goodyear SRA's and GSA's. I did a search, but didn't find anything useful.

Thanks,

Dave

Cooper has tires in size LT235/80R17 E. Their Discoverer ATR and Discoverer M+S (Winter). I have no first hand experience with these tires but you may want to check them out.

Cheers!

Ted

Thanks,

I've been out of the TDR loop for awhile and was wondering if there were any new manufacturers making these tires. I'll check out the Coopers.

Cheers,

Dave

Buddy of mine just put some Cooper Mastercraft (HTR or HVR's) on his 04 last week. He went to Oklahoma with the 48' enclosed tied on, due back today, I will be asking to see what he thinks of them. Said they only ran him less then $1200 for all 6, half the price of those Goodyear POS's!!

Well, I ordered a set of Cooper Discoverer M&S winter tires. I'll let you know how they hold up. Almost the exact same price as the Goodyear GSA's at just under $2,000. 00 mounted, balanced and taxes in (Canadian dollars, mind you).

Cheers,

Dave

I just got a set of Michelins mounted and waiting for the snow to come. When I was looking for tires I out that Firestone and Toyo have them now. I think General also has a tire. I am very happy with the tread design and siping on the Michelins as this is what I want for running into the Kootenays for skiing.

We put Michelins on my parents dually. Very good tire. I will probably put them on mine when the time comes, I have only 25k on my truck and the sidewalls of the Goodyears are starting to crack.

I had cracking on all six of my GY's and finally had to get rid of them. At the time, the Firestones and Michelins weren't available. The Coopers and Mastercrafts were 30 day national back order. The Generals were on a 14 day national b/o. I got the General AmeriTrac TR's, $800 for all six mounted balanced and road hazard warranty. They have been good to me so far. I don't expect I'll get 80,000 miles out of them ( :D ), but they'll hold me over until I can either get some 19. 5's or some one else has 235/80/17's that AREN'T ALWAYS ON BACKORDER!

Hey Dave,

Here is a thread I started a little while back with the same question.

https://www.turbodieselregister.com/forums/showthread.php?t=133761&highlight=tires

I am still looking myself. (don't drive the truck much now, so the tires are going to last longer than I thought).

Hope this thread helps others with the same question. I am leaning towards the Michelins. What I would really like to do is Buy some Rickson Alloys, but $$$$ :{

Hope this helps. BTW there are no tires that I have heard of that are not listed in this link. Let us know how you like the Coopers.

Greg

Greg,

It figures, I would like to have gotten Michelins, but thier web site said they had no tires in that size!

Thanks for the info,

Dave

Anyone notice their Generals becomming loud as they wear?

My next set will be Mich's

The stock Generals (Mexican made) are an embarrassment to the truck. These tires are crap. Mine are 75% worn with 18,000 miles, mostly highway miles! Having to replace 6 just compounds the frustration.

O. K. --- I feel better now.

Any of you guys rotate your dually tires?

I've been told not to rotate the back tires and let them wear as a set.

I've got the Generals, no complaints except a whineing road noise at 40-45 or so.

Have to, read up on strange tread wear patterns and you will see why. At least with the Generals you can put them where need be, my GY POS'S have to be broken down and remounted so I can get some miles out of them! #@$%!

That's funny, a buddy just traded his 04 with Michelin's for an 05. The 05 has the General (first I have seen that did nto have the Goodyears) and said he loves the General's but hated the Michelin's.

My Generals are badly wearing and I only have 13,000 miles on them :--) . I will soon be tire shopping but I will buy 19. 5's before I pay $1200 for a set of 6. Todd

I've got a pair of Coops Discover STs that I ran last winter on my 04 DRW - 235 85 17s. Liked them very much and we have serious winter here abouts. Thankfully they will also fit on my 97 DRW, but I'm going to wear out the Interco TrXus MTs that came on the 97 first - shouldn't take long.

I rotate every 5K when I change the oil.

I just got some prices on a set of bridgestone dueler a/t revo 265/70rr17 and about ran off the raod when the guy told me i was geeting a good deal mounted and bal at only 1489. 95 for six.
