My dad has a 97 dually 4X4 and we are looking for a system to extend the valve stems on the inner wheels to make it easier for him to check and fill his tires. Does anyone know of a good, quality kit or solution for this?

I found that you have to be real careful what extension you use on the inside wheel. The weight of the extension can damage the valve stem (if left on). I use a gauge that I got at wally world that reaches and you can also get an extension that screws onto the air hose that will reach the normal valve stem length. Another approach is to just screw the valve stem extensions on when you are filling with air and then unscrew when done.

I purchased a set of these at Camping World, but have not installed them yet. They do not actually pressurize the extension until you press the pin on the extension piece itself. It has a pin that pushes the pin on the stock valve stem when it is being used. I hear they are a little tricky to set up, we'll have to see.

Besides tearing off valve stems the leave on extensions will also throw your tires off balance. Just get a truck type air chuck.

Dkevdog,

I purchased that type also and have tried to install them...

I believe I need to install metal valve stems first as the rubber are actually at their max specs with 65-70 lbs air without the additional weight added.

With rubber stems the connection was too flexible to correctly adjust the extended stems.

Piece of mind.

I am in a wheelchair, so I really try to avoid any type of flat tire situation. I tried the flexible extensions when I first got my truck. Didn't mount them to the wheels tight enough, pulled loose and pulled out both inside valve stems = two inside flats at the same time.

I have since went to metal vavle stems all the way around the truck, with screw on hard metal extensions for the inside duals. Been using this set up for around 80,000 miles and two sets of tires and no problems so far.

The first set of extenders I used where the clip in style, they worked OK, but I didn't read the de-structions and mounted them to the rubber style stems and one pulled out and deflated the tire. Also one of the clips holding the valve stems came out and the extender beat it self to death before enough ground away to deflate a second tire. I then switched to the style linked to at "Camping World" and not a problem since, the fit and finish is nice and they compliment the stainless hub caps on the dually. The mounts aren't spring clips they are tabs that rivet to the center cap. Just one thing to remember don't use extenders with rubber valve stems!

I have a long reach two sided fill valve for inside tire I use the valve face on my side and pull out to unseat the valve stem and fill the tire . On out side tire I use the other side face to the tire push it to unseat the valve stem and fill the tire and front tires too. Easy Push Pull and no need for the extenders that through the wheel out of balance . Cheaper too . A two sided extended valve of about seven inches cost about 5$ And with practice you will see that it is not to bad to do . Ron in Louisville KY P. S. I have the valve extenders on most of the time Some one steals them from time to time . Ron:(

dually value stems

Reply to Dkevdog:

I BOUGHT A SET OF DUALLY VALUE STEM FROM CAMPING WORLD AND INSTALLED THEM ABOUT A YEAR AGO AND THEY ARE WORKING GREAT. I GOT THE ONES THAT HOOK INTO THE OUT SIDE DUAL. THEY ARE STRAIGHT FROM THE INSIDE TO THE OUTSIDE.

I had the same set up but one of the inside longer stems blew a leak and my inside tire went flat, but I didn't know it for several hundred miles. Almost ruined my tire.
