Thanks all for the help I'll tell my cousin what he will have to do so they won't be replacing the fenders on my uncles truck. Hope fully this will help. I sure glad I found this sight and joined just got my first magazine and it is helping me learn all the different things between models. I hope to get my cousin to join then he can get is answers from people who know these trucks.

I'm referring to sway on the horizontal plane which transmits to the trailer and will cause it to sway, that is due to sidewall flex. Swaying or tilting on the vertical plane has a lot to do with suspension as you said, however that doesn't transmit to the trailer nearly as much.



I have never experianced a horizontal plane sway with my SRW, even on short trips where I have knowingly overloaded the tires it is all vertical. Like I mentioned above sway has never been an issue even at 95-100% of tire loading.



Like the OP said and you agreed, even a mid sized slide in will have the axle overloaded on a srw, then add in the tongue weight and the weight transfer and its really overloaded.



Just to be clear, the tires are overloaded and not the axle. The axle is rated for 10,912 lbs in a SRW or DRW configuration.
 
Confession time:

I have been hauling a Lance Lite 8'6" 2340lbs fully loaded. It handles fairly well. On occasion I also tow Jeep on trailer. I found that the ride is more stable with the Jeep/trailer behind than just the Lance in the bed.

I have been looking at different options such as the 3500 SRW or DRW in a 2013. Also, we currently have the Lance for sale keep the truck and buying a TT.

Did you weigh the camper?

I only ask because the dry weight on the camper in your sig is 2011lbs, which doesn't include water or options. Water alone brings it up to 2350, let alone any options, food, clothes, etc. I have seen first hand how far off Lance advertised weights are from reality once loaded.

My dad's 2012 Lance 850 has a brochure weight of 2350lbs, the sticker on the back says 2662lbs, and the scale says it is closer to 3700-4000lbs loaded for camping.

We can only assume the different is due to options, such as 4 seasons, microwave, a/c, etc is why there is such a delta once the camper is on the truck.

When we take the Jeep I try and load as much weight on the trailer as I can instead of the camper. We have also used a small cargo trailer when it is available to use.

I would guess you are quite a bit heavier than you think.

My folks also tow a small cargo trailer with gen, table, chairs, extra water, etc.
 
I had a real nice 09 2500 until I bought a large Toy hauler and pulled it home from Fort Worth. It did all right but I traded for my current 2011 dually and it is a lot more stable truck and a lot nicer one also. 4th gen trucks are nice!

I just got back from taking the same trailer to Houston so my wife could do treatment at M. D. Anderson and stayed in a real nice RV park called Lakeview just 8 miles from Texas Medical center. Got 6. 8 mpg going 70-75 mph . The big 4x4 dually fits in all the parking garages there also.
 
I just had the first tire rotation done on my '13 (my first dually) this week (outers only). I was shocked to see that what had been the hidden side of all four Alcoa forged aluminum wheels were unpolished! The formerly outsides of those wheels had beautiful polished finishes from the factory. I may consider forgoing rotations altogether after the next time, when the polished sides get returned to view.



It does not make any difference if you own a Chevy Dodge Ford Kenworth or Freithtliner the alloy wheels are all polished on the outside only. Just something we all have to deal with.
 
My experience is that a lot MORE people buy SRW trucks when they should have bought duallies for the job at hand. I'd never remotely consider towing our 5th wheel with a SRW truck.

I was traveling East from Palm Springs to Phoenix on HWY 10 at the front of a bad storm. The winds were SW at 40 to 60 mph the 28K combined load did not even flinch, rock solid. The friends in a Motorhome traveling with us was all over, the driver said he was having trouble staying in the lane.



Until you tow with a Dually you have no idea what it is like to have a stress free towing experience.
 
I've spent a lot of money and time trying to get my SRW 3500 to be stable while hauling our camper. Its close now but not close enough. I am not willing to risk my life or my families anymore. I listened to guys tell me I would be fine hauling a 4400 lbs camper in my truck. Can it be done, sure but its not safe and I wonder some times when a motorcycle or car cuts me off on the freeway if they have any idea of what is going to happen if they for some reason stop too quickly in front of me. I won't be swerving to avoid anything in my way. I'm going right through it.

Too many people say "it will or does tow just fine" it is the emergency situation that will tell you your truck is not enough and wished you had a dually!
 
I was a lot more confident pulling my 39' TH through Dallas and Houston at 65 to 75 mph and knowing that if I blow a tire on the rear of my dually truck, or the trailer, I will probably be able to keep it under control.

More peace of mine for me, makes it worth having a 3500 dually.
