We have a 01. 5 3500 that we use in BaJa all the time. When we have to run in sand I drop the air pressure to 30# for traction and with the weight on the truck the tires rub together. Has anyone ever put spacers between the wheels to gain more clearance?

Do you have aluminum or steel wheels? I don't know about the aluminum wheels but the steel wheels are hub located and there is not enough "hub" for putting spacers between the factory steel wheels. I'm guessing here but considering aluminum wheels are generally thicker they are most like lug located which should allow the use of spacers without any problems.

just my 2 cents

I have used a spacer made by Arrowcraft and they were really nice. The inside bud wheel goes on the hub first so it is centered on the hub ring. Than the adapter goes on and is bolted to the original whell studs. Finally the outer bud wheel is bolted onto the adapter; it has a centering ring machined into it for the bud wheel.

In my opinion weight capacity must go down and the extra leverage created by the adapters has got to tax the wheel bearings, but if extra floatation is needed with wider tires than they do there job.

The Arrowcraft stuff is really nice and very strong and well made , but it is not for all applications. Good Luck .

I installled 235/85R16 tires on my 98. 5 3500 and they touched. Found a spacer at Jeg's for less than $20 that works great. They are not so thick that they cause lug problems but the tires have plenty of clearance now. Been hauling heavy loads and towing heavy gooseneck and 5th wheel for many miles with no problem.
