Duelly Valve Stem Extenders

I have seen them, but never looked into them.

Do you guys run a system to check the inner tire from the outside?

Dad was telling me of one that hooks to both tires so you can pump them both to the same PSI the same time.



Which ones are good (or bad)

I use a gauge that has a straight valve stem checker as well as a valve stem checker at about a 30 degree angle. Inflator has the exact same. No prob checking or inflating. Less "stuff" to possibly go wrong, and you can set the pressures differently if the wear is a little different.



There is another checker that is NOT straight that makes checking and filling next to impossible on the inner tires.

Bob's advice is best. The extenders can throw your wheels off balance and the extra weight has a tendency to break off valve stems.

In addition, if one tire gets a flat, they both go down.

I fought the duley air problem, tried the extenders that didn't work and caused more flat tires than I really wanted. I ended up making a tire pressure checker and air inflater in one unit. The parts were availiable from CarQuest. A straight and angled air chuck, brass pipe to length, copper fittings, air guage, and an airtank inflater fitting. Assemble to fit. The 98. 5 wheels and trim seem to be different from other wheels. I can check the pressure and inflate or deflate any of tires using a standard air hose at any air supply.

Recommend: Do not install extenders. I had my inside extender hit by a rock or ? and blew off, but I did not know it for several hundred miles. Inside tire was flat for all that time, and I didn't know it because I trusted the extention.

I decided to follow everybody's advice and not get the extenders. I still am thinking about buying a set of those things you screw on that have the red-yellow-green indicators on them, but they would probably leak as well.



I did get a new gauge. I prefer a real gauge over those slide rule things, but all TSC has was the slide rule type, so thats what I got.

For all of you not running extenders... . I can get to the inside with the above mentioned guage and inflator, but getting a hand in there to remove the cap is damn near impossible...



Do you run without the cap? And do you have problems with dirt getting in there?

I keep the cap off the inside tires and do not have any problem with dirt. But I also do no offroading and don't drive it in snow.
