I wrote the "hot brake drum" topic.

I just pulled the drums to take a look and for the first time noticed that the shoes come in two lining thicknesses.

At random, I had installed both thick ones on the "rear" of each side. Looks like in the manual, it is calling for the "primary" shoe (I assume the thick ones) to be installed on the "front" position. Is this correct?

I sure think this will explain my hot drums!

It's been 35 years since i've done any drum work... . disks sure spoil a guy. #@$%!

The primary shoe goes in front and normally has a shorter lining on it, secondary or rear has full length lining. bg

I can't go out a look right now, but what I saw before dark was that two of the shoes had much THICKER linings than the other two... . like 50% thicker. Is this correct or did I get some bad shoes from NAPA?

OK, I just measured..... I have the short (thinner) lining on the front and the longer (thicker) lining on the rear.

So I guess I lucked out when I installed them. So now I am back to my original "hot drum" problem. I will be doing the "fitting" process that JMcCoy mentioned in my other topic.

Also make sure the shoes are super clean. Any greasy fingerprings will also effect break in and create heat. Before reinstall your drum, I like to hit the shoes left and right with the palms of my hands a few time (clean hands). I do this to make sure everything is moving freely and centered as it should be. Good luck.
