I have the 3 light set that is normally found at the bottom center of Dully tailgates that I plan to install onto my 5th wheel tailgate. My question is... ... . Is this wired as a brake light or running lights on your trucks? Thanks ~~~~Cliff
Because the dually is over 80 inches in width they put the three center marker and fender marker lights on to meet DOT requirements. You don't need this with a 2500 so you could wire them up as brake lights if you wanted to. Your stock truck already meets the standards so as long as the lights are of the correct color and meet DOT standards, you can add on whatever you wish.
I had no idea that it was required for your trucks because of the width... . but it make sense. I knew it wasn't required for my 2500 but I do like the way it looks on the dully's. Thanks for the education... ... ... . I'm gett'in smarter everyday Cliff
If you decide to wire it as a brake light there may be a wire for this in the harness. On my 99 there is a wire pigtail near the rear of the frame in front of the last crossmember that is marked CHMSL, in the service manual it appears this stands for Center High Mount Stop Light and could be used to power a 3rd brake light. I have not found the time to get an assistant to push on the brakes to verify this but in the manual it appears to feed from the same source as the cab brake light. If you cut into the harness and use a side brake light feed the center light will blink with that turn signal
Where can I get the 1 piece light that you guys have on your gate? I've got the 3 small (old dully style)lights on the strip and yours look more stream lined. Thanks ~
Try to find a wreck to get one off of. It cost me about $70 at the dealer w/out the lights, although the dealer threw the lights in for free after I wined and complained about the price. There are two separate parts: the housing and the light receptacles.
I have a 2500 and would like to install a set of the ICC lights. For you non-duelly guys, will this strip fit under the gate above the bumper or does it have to go on the face of the tailgate
I don't think it will, but measure to be sure. Wallmart sells a cheapo set ($9) that I was going to paint the white strip black and mount below the tailgate. It was just too tight and didn't want to screw with it.
