I keep hearing about tc lockup. How do I know when the tc is actually locked? For example, when I use my ebrake and let off the go pedal at 50mph, the tack usually stays at a higher rpm and then slowly drops as I slow down until I feel the autoloc cut off at about 28mph. I have also had the tack drop to idle with the ebrake on at 40mph. I didn't know why the tc unlocked if that is what happened.

The bottom line, how can you know when the tc is locked or unlocked? Is it RPM, gear selection, speed?

First of all, to tell when it goes into lockup, simple count the shifts. The fourth one you feel (if you have OD turned on) will be the TC locking up.

If you are in OD, and slowing to 40 mph, you should feel the TC come unlocked and the tack drop to idle. This is how the AutoLoc-TorqLoc works. If you have OD locked out, and you are in 3rd gear lockup, the TC should stay locked up to around 25-28 mph.

It is my understanding that the 2001's lock-up the TC in 3rd before shifting into OD. There was some discussion on this a couple of months back. That would make the 3rd "shift" actually the TC locking.

Yes you can tell by rpms, slowing down or speeding up. The rpms and the speed will move "in unison" if the TC is locked. If they don't, then the TC is unlocked.
 
Doesn't the TC unlock everytime you let your foot off the accelerator?
