I figure you guys could answer this, maybe stupid question. My '01 cummins is used, took me a little while to figure out the "oil leaks" in driveway were the crankcase vent tube catch bottle missing.

Is there a "perceived performance" enhancement by removing this thing?

Or maybe just wasn't put back on correctly at one time and fell off... ... ?

thx

no performance gain too it, however if the bottle isn't there and the person that had before just took the bottle off and didn't put a tube on to extend it below the radaitior. The fins can get oil soaked and then from the dust and what not become plugged over time. I took my bottle off and got a double male adapter and a piece of heater hose and extended mine down by the front axle. I can always wash the underneath of the truck, i just didn't want the oil and stuff on the rad.

In my case I lost the bottle on purpose. All it really does is spread oil and dirt all over the front of the engine, on your fan blades and all over your radiator. I guess it can eventually clog up the radiator and cause overheating problems.

Had that Problem, Ended up pulling the radiator to clean it. Now I have a 5/8 heater hose running a slight down hill to just aft of the transfer case. Moose00 Oo.

I don't believe all the '01's came with the bottle. The build date on my truck is 6. 2000 and it does not have the bottle.

You lucky dog (sheep), where'd they put your little secret mess flow tube.

I also extended mine down hill gradually to the t-case area, also helps with the fumes in cab. For anyone doing the same, make sure the tube dose'nt get pinched causing blockage, I hear it can do bad things.

I like how my Mazda's is, goes from the valve cover right into the intake. No mess at all.

Another clean fix to the vent problem is to check out "cummins vent kit" at E Bay. Iv sold well over 60 of these kits without a single complaint. In the process right now on making up 20 more sets. IMO the bottle actualy serves a practical purpose (ZERO drips) when mounted the right way AND in the right place.
