All right I know this is simple, but.....

I'm ready to adjust the valves and pulled out the shop manual. It calls for the removal of the fuel pump cover (this appears to be the same as where the crankcase breather comes out of front of engine on the 2001), but no where does it say how to remove this cover. Does it just pry off? If so, how do I do it without damaging the gear cover? The instructions for valve adj are really simple and the TDC mark is right on gear cover. Once fuel pump cover is off all I have to do is align the mark. How the hell do I get the fuel pump cover off? In doing a search everyone seems to be talking about alignment of dampner marks, but no one seems to do it like the shop manual or I'm not reading it right. Any help or clarification is appreciated.

You can remove the blowby hose with hose clamp pliers. Then remove the hose from the blow-by bottle by pulling up. Next step use a large set of pliers/channel locks to grip onto the bottle and unscrew it from the gear cover.

Next step, with a mechanics mirror find the "TDC" mark on your fuel pump gear and begin your valve adjustment.

Thanks Justin for the information. The shop manual shows an arrow going counter clockwise, but had no information. I didn't want to crank on it or pull and cause damage. Everything else in manual is straight forward and I knew this breather removal couldn't be that complicated, but no one on threads talked about in search I did. Better to ask and look dumb than break it. Again, thanks.
