I would like to hear from the people that have bought either the dunright triple lock coverter or the transbuddy..... give me the good bad or the ugly. i have read several posts and it seems that its 50 50 on the good and the bad. I talked with Tony yesterday and he seems very knowledgable and very friendly and really took the time to expain things. He is local for me so that would be really cool to get parts from him. I will be performing the work myself. I will just be buying parts. I know he has single disk converters also but I am more interested in the triple lock. Any info appreciated.

Thanks, Jamie

The trans buddy is a pain to do and ireversible. If you don't have valve body experience you might want to rethink it as a diy project.

I know nothing about them but if your feedback is 50/50 that wouldnt be good enough for me.

well i have read good bad and ugly about all the big transmission places. none are perfect. dunrite is a smaller shop compared to the others so i would expect to get less info from people. The posts i am refering to are only about 5 posts. you cant really pass judment without more info.

The moderaters are right these transmission posts really cause alot of trouble. I rebuilt my own ford torque shift with suncoasts extreem kit and there tripple lock tc. so i think i can do a valve body. my torque shift was bullet proof after that. i may go suncoast fo my dodge also. as i posted dunrite is local and that would be cool but i need info from people that have actually tried and ran his products. not just opinions... ... .....

thanks, jamie

That wasnt an opinion and no trouble... I had no idea what your 50/50 is whether 2 responses or 1,000. Like I said I don't know them and cant pass judgement on their work, I'm merely pointing out that if my feedback was 50/50 I wouldnt buy from them.

its ok the opinion part wasnt for you. i guess if i read this post i would kinda think the same thing. ;) i have been reading all the transmission posts and its really hard to make one transmission place stand out above all the rest. they all seem to have good and bad posts. thanks for the input.

No problems, the good thing about the guy being local is you can always track him down and make him make things right if things arent up to par after the sell.

I too am looking at using Dunrite because my local guy installs it. I will be following this thread closely to see the responses. By the way, will you be using a manual lockup switch with yours? The local shop demo'd a setup with the transbuddy and manual switch. I just don't know if I would use the switch. They seem kind of risky to me for some reason. The truck he drove shifted really firm, but he was romping it good to show the improvement in usable power.

My post was not an opinion either. I have installed the Dunnright product before he went with the tripple disk. While he was still in California. The valve body worked ok,but did not appear very professional the way the mods are done. The torque convertor would not hold up at about 800-850 lbsft of torque like the DTT single disc that I use now. They shudder while towing at that level. I don't know how they are fooling the gov pressure signals now but back then they were hit and miss telling you to try different value resistors. With this in mind there is a reason they are not one of the more popular choices. I like Tony too but when we had pressure issues with one of our installs he basiclly told us to figure it out. We then found our instruction sheet was for his earlier version and would not work with the version shipped to our shop. The next experience was one of his installs in his El Monte shop for one of my customers who won the trans upgrade at one of my seminars. I ended up driving to State line and towed his trailer back to Orange county when his truck was stuck in limp-in. I found they had not insulated the resister and had taped it up in the harness that way. It took down the entire buss system,No A/C (summer time in the desert),no charging system,no gauges, etc. Spoiled that vacation trip! I have since started using DTT and have never looked back,I have happy customers and no more 250 mile road calls :)

That was back in 99/2000 I think. After I met Bill Kondalay and drove his trannys I never looked back.

it is my understanding that piers installs dunrite's products - yes, piers does trannys too.

i think tony really knows what he is talking about - he has a rediculous amount of experience. i'm going with his valve body and likely the new ats converter - but his local shop will not be doing the work.

i like his pressure v. throttle slope concept on his valve body -- we shall see.

i believe that ats has the most innovative design in the TC world - from what information i've gathered. i also believe dunrite has the valve body to fit my needs best. lifetime warranty is a consideration for me but i believe the equipment will last a lifetime regardless (risk taker). :-laf

i haven't made a final decision yet on what to do either

You live in Washington

and Tony is in Vancouver and you won't meet a nicer guy... ... I'm running a Triple lock and his VB - fantastic... .

Could you share with us why you beleive the ATS torque convertor is the most innovative design and how it differs from the other tripple disc convertors. Tia.

I had Tony install a $2300 modified trans in my 98. 5 in Elmonte. After 15K of babying it, I noticed a whine in while on the road. In Memphis, it was apparrent there was a problem. I had a stock trans reinstalled at my expense. I opted to keep the torque converter, probably because of the longer vanes. We continued to the east coast and augered into Albrquerque. Dodge replaced the complete trans there. I've often wondered if the TC was properly balanced. I wish I were more mechanical on transmissions. Don
