Over the past 26 years my construction company has tried many brands (read all) of trucks. General Motors trucks could not handle the rough dirt roads we run on all day. The frames and cabs cracked. Radiators feel out, transmissions lasted 30,000 miles. We tried the PS fords- injector pumps went every 30,000 miles like clockwork, front ends were not strong enough for the diesel weight and the rough roads. We had to fight Ford (they attributed the abnormal wear to abuse) to replace the front ends on the trucks every 30. 000 miles. We got smart and bought extended warranties with all trucks. Glow plugs did not last long so cold weather starting suffered. We switched to Dodges in 1989. While they have had there share of problems they are in no way like ford or gm. I would put my service lives of my trucks up against anything that Ford and Chevy can do.
