New Engine Analysis coming

Cummins 5.9 or Cat 3126E

Hi Folks,

I have a couple of questions and I was wondering if anyone hear could help get some answers. The snowmobile race team I am a member of uses a 2002 GMC 2500 Duramax / Auto to pull a 38 foot enclosed trailer full of sleds. Sometimes after it is started at idle it run rough and for the lack of a better term go rumpa, rumpa, rumpa and does not go away until you drive it for a couple of miles then it runs ok but does not have near the power it should at highway speeds. Are there any problems like this common to this engine? or any tsb's that we should check on. The truck is a company vehicle and is maintained at the dealer, it was just serviced there and they did not say anything about the way it runs but the owner of the truck never asked about it either.

My other question is which is faster a Duramax auto 4x4 or a similarly equipped 02 F-250 7. 3L Powerstroke? The reason I ask is that one of the Guys we race with has a Powerstroke and we had the oppertunity to have a go at it for about three uninterupted miles last year on I-29 and both trucks were pulling about the same load but the Furd outpulled the GMC from about 70 on up good enough that we knew we had no chance of passing him. Our GMC stopped at 96 mph and the Furd stopped pulling at about 105. One thing I did notice is that the Ford was blowing pretty good smoke out the tail pipe and to my Knowledge they do not do that stock which he swears it is. I was under the impression that the Duramax was the faster of the two trucks but I've been wrong before. Has anyone run these trucks against each other and if so which one was fastest.

Thanks,

Kurt.

I would have to say that the rough idle is probably contributed to an injector issue. They have been having trouble with those. You might want to have it checked out. A leaking injector an burn a hole in a piston. :{
