Duramax+ Edge Box =BIG POWER

Another co-worker installed a EDGE Products box on his 2002 Duramax club cab dooley today. He takes me for a ride and says watch this, floors the pedal and that truck which is almost 8,000 lbs. gets up and hauls a-s!!! I am impressed big time!! All this from a little black box that alters what the PCM thinks it sees and modifies what the PCM does to fuel timing and delivery!!! We are all mechanics so all this stuff gets us going no matter what make diesel we are playing with. They all rattle, some louder than others!! I love the loud ones, reminds me of my solid cammed big block.

there is one guy on the pickuptrucks.com forum that haul's cross country down in the states. . he has a 01 i believe that has like ±250,000 miles on it. he has had no real engine problems that i have heard of, but has had other drivetrain problems [trans, diff. ]



don't them new navistar vt 365's have alum. alloy heads?

They had one on the Dyno at Utah Dyno days that made 429 HP I believe, with the juice, propane and a few other goodies.

It came up a little short from an equally equiped cummins that laid down 590 something HP ( HeberRams ) .

Diesel Modifications

I have another co-worker who just installed the Banks Power Pack system on his 2001 Ford F-350 Dooley with the auto trans. Huge power improvement also. Everything fit like a glove and was not diificult at all to install. The most difficult operation was installing the waste gate clip on the turbo. This was tough as that Powerstroke turbo is tucked under the cowl area. So now at work we have a Powerstroke and a Duramax that are modified, it will be interesting to see which one holds out the longest. The Duramax will be getting a 4" exhaust system sometime in the next week. Just waiting for a phone call to lend a hand. I will keep all informed of these two trucks.

Matt, I love it, the looks on those boys faces after seeing the KING of HP is great.

The poor ol fords could not even come close to breaking 400 hp, 329 hp was the best I seen. hehe

Yes, 2000ney, the Vega had aluminum heads. I would be the last person to brag about aluminum heads and the Vega in particular, but in all fairness, it wasn't the heads that caused the most problems on the Vega, but rather overheating problems from a severly under-rated cooling system.

A buddy of mine had Vegas. When he had gobs of problems with the first one, he beefed up the cooling system in the second one and it actually ran a long time.

I agree, though, I would have a hard time trusting a diesel with aluminum heads. The Duramax intriegs (sp) me, but for now, the ol' Cummins is a sure thing.

Isuzu has been making aluminum head truck engines for quite some time... . as has UD (Nissan?)..... they have had pretty good luck with them... but only time will tell... .



Keep on drinking beer... . they need scrap aluminum for them heads!

GM & Aluminum = Long Marriage

I made an interesting discovery today. I was over at this old guy's place and he had a few early '30s Cadillac V12s anda V16 sitting around his garage. Those engines have aluminum blocks and cast iron cylinder/tappet guide assemblies! Actually appear to be very well built. The cylinders are cast together with a plate that hold them in one piece which fits down into the top of each bank and is clamped by the heads.



Even more interesting. Roller lifters! In 1932?? Very cool engine. The V16 looked very especially with the stock machined aluminum valve covers. These engines have serious class.

Having just come over from GM to Cummins (not necessarily Dodge) I can give you some quick things on DuraMax (I am also a GM DieselPage member). Quiet, smooth, downtown garageable, powerful (there is a 600hp Pike's Peak DuraMax with--get this--a built 4L80E), easy entry, quality, very expensive (considering our trucks), heavy frames, highly computerized, Allison codes a secret which is hard on bombers as Allison slips at 375hp, NO head gasket problems to speak of. So why did I buy a Dodge. I will tell you. I wanted simplicity (was longtime looking for a 98 QC 12 valve but no luck), reliablility (proven), inexpensive (not really a daily driver) and cheap horsepower mods. ALSO, my grandkids have to shoot out the back side windows at gophers and the Dodge windows can come out without gettin a crewcab (too long with long bed for camper). This was IMPORTANT! Some of you understand. Computers freak me and the DM has got a bunch. The Chevy definetly does not feel cheap like my Dodge but it cost me less too. All for now. GE

Ive got a new Edge box coming for my cousins 02 Dmax this week,from what ive heard,i better be careful the Dmax with this edge will give my Dodge a run for the money. Ill elt everyone know as soon as we get it,and race em!Ill run it against my dad's 01 too,with dd2's and ez.

Seems like i run into a lot of people who think GM stands for god motors. I hear all the time about how dodge is built crappy and not very good. I laugh because my dad just got a 2002 GMC envoy and i noticed about 8 places where the body panels don't even come close to lineing up, heck the hood wasn't even on straight and had to be lined up again. makes you wonder if they can't put the fenders and body together right what about the rest of the vehicle. as for me i would never own a GM product

Hey Cowboy, I think the metal on your 93 is thicker than my 2002. My paint scrapes off with my fingernails. The bed sags inbetween the joists when I walk on it with 210 lbs. The Cummins, transmission and axles are the attraction for me. And price. All in all a good value. Keeps me out of a Ford. too. GM has sold over 100,000 DM's so far. Somebody likes em. GE

Its called good marketing. The main one being how quiet they are. A lot of people dont really care what is the best "but dam the Dmax is quiet I'll take it! "

Unless he has propane to go with that box... . don't worry.



The quickest I have heard of is 14. 1 on propane and a box of some sort on the Duramax, and this was a regular cab truck.

the track numbers are not that important to me. i enjoy racing little rice burners to 10km over the speed limit, then i let off. . [over 10km, tickets become too expensive when you count the demerrit points... ] it's fun... but i need way more gear in my 'hoe. 3. 42 gears with 33" tires. . not so good. .

They're not so hot

I met up with the owner of a new Dmax ext cab

short bed 4x4 2500HD. He has the Edge Juice and

we ran at Texas Motorplex at Ennis the other

night. His best time was 15. 1 @ 89. Mine was

16. 2 @ 86. I was shifting gears (NV4500) and he

has the Allison so I was no competition off

the line. With a set of injectors and a "box"

a DMax with the Juice is not a problem.



I have the older 3 light Edge standard box in my

truck and no other mods.



His stock time was 16. 8@ 81 MPH with the Juice

off.
