Thanks, TDR Staff

You don't wanna mess with this guy's truck

Saw this bilboard tonight

This may take me a while to spit out but read it is worth it.

I work for a construction company out of Northern Oregon. The company switched from Dodge to the Maxipad recently because of the power and the Allison transmission.

They bought the superintendant one and let him put 100K on it before they bought any more. It was a 3500HD with a canopy on it probably having about 800lbs in it at any given time. It went beautifully so the owner bought two more and slapped flatbeds on them. These two run 12K at least all the time. The power is awesome.

Now for the hitch. At about 105K the superintendants truck started spewing coolant. It took another 3K miles to take it in to the stealer. Well, surprise surprise, Not only one but both heads were cracked so, at less than 110K the first one is down. FOR A MONTH!!! Somewhere around 6K later it comes back, is driven less than 500 miles and breaks down again (not sure what for this time cause it happened last night) It leaves him stranded about ten miles from home.

Now, The rig that I ride in 450 miles a week one way to work is brought home a day later, gets parked in the driveway and when the foreman's son goes out for a beer from the ice chest he runs back in to tell dad that the truck is on fire. Haven't seen it but I guess that the fuse box under the hood caught fire and was burning pretty good. Get this, the truck only has 14K on it.

The other one is driving alright. Just a matter of time though before it breaks down.

Sure am glad I bought my Dodge.

Figured You'all would enjoy the stupidity of the Chevy's

FlipSide.

our Chevy 3500HD D-Max/Allison 2wd has 52K

Grossing up to 36-37,000 pounds,, we've had these problems,,

Twice (once at 10K one at 45K) the truck just turned off,, we reprimed it and went on. (neither time when towing)

Fuel filter once (at 15K)

Oil and Oil Filter 3-4 times

transmission fluid and filter once (at 15K)

-----------------------

Dodge 3500 5-speed 2wd, at 75K

2-3 fuel filters

oil and filter about 5-6 times

tires 4 times

------------------

The D-Max is getting traded in for an '03 Dodge 3500HD Auto soon.

I kept the Dodge from 75K till now (106K)

Lots of problems from driving VERY rough rodes, grossly overloaded and lack of maintanence.

My story on the subject.

Update.....

Well, the third and seemingly decent truck has now started spewing coolant. Not a good sign.

The superintendants truck came back, the problem was the mechanics never re-attached most of the stuff underhood, and something came unplugged.

The formans truck is still in the shop. It has been there two weeks and still hasn't had so much as one person lift the hood. The other truck is drinking coolant, but the owner of the company says run'er till she pukes.

He has definately cancelled the new GM trucks he was going to order and is now looking very heavily at the new Dodge 3500's. If they put the heavy transmission in them he will buy a couple of them.

Once again, everytime I come home (once a week) I am thrilled to jump into my Dodge, turn the key and know that my REAL truck will fire up every time. Not to mention that it will outwork the POS things I have to work with now.

Take care

Ha!... Ha! I wouldn't own one now either... well not until maybe the third year of production and then late in the year to know what if any problems continue.

Just for kicks, my roommate and I went to all the local dealerships (dodge/ chevy / ford) and test drove new trucks.

The chevy salesman let us take a 2500HD w/Duramin for a little spin. We get out on the highway, get it into overdrive and punch it. transmission drops to 3rd gear, and the dash lights up like a christmas tree. We limp it back to the dealership, and politely tell the guy no thanks. It took five minutes for me to quit laughing enough to drive us home :-laf:-laf. I was laughing so hard I was crying! I kinda feel bad for laughing at the salesman... but not too bad :D! As we left, the guy was watching. I couldn't help myself: I did a nice little burnout in their driveway, just to say bye.

We have a 2500 HD Duramax with a loaded utility body. 45k and no problems.

My partner loves his Chevy and respects my Dodge. We both know he has the quieter, smoother ride and I have the real truck that can take harsh treatment. Both empty, he wins the race. But loaded down, I'm gone.
