Today purchased like new 2001 club cab

Some owners could destroy a railroad locomotive.

My '08 has about 111k miles on it and has been perfect. TDR member EB had over 350k essentially troublefree miles on his last visit. TulsaOkie who hasn't posted in months retired one at over 350k and bought a new replacment.

There is nothing wrong with the products if they are used properly.

Most of the TDR members who seriously dislike ISB6. 7s have never owned one.

Harvey we all speak from our own personal experience. I'm glad your truck and two others are running well. But my experience and my friends hasn't been as favorable.

And your right Harvey, I don't own a 6. 7. I guess I can't have an educated opinion any engine I don't own?

"Being used properly" that's the main issue I have with the new trucks. You used to be able to buy a truck and just drive it. Now if it isn't operated for a certain period of time in a certain manner it will be rendered inoperable. That's just rediculous.

Nyoest: the v8 diesels are not bad diesels itself, just everything around it. The amount of parts needed to be removed and replace is for most of us, cost prohibitive. Often times its people or companies with deep wallets that can afford them.

I myself cannot risk myself as I'll go broke really shortly. I don't like gambling my money, so I cannot risk buying a ford or gm. We ourselves fix them too, and we know what it's like as well. Our friends own those trucks and one Duramax was in our garage every week for something different with the fuel system to the point we were forced to tell our buddy to take the dmax to the dealer to be fixed as we lost our motivation trying to fix those different problems. Dodge still has the most simple engine Under the hood. Even if they have the same fuel system, egr etc problems like the v8 trucks.

It's true that nowadays we have to drive these diesels a lot to get them to be reliable whether they're Dodges, Ford or Gm. Also gas trucks are now better on fuel to the point that we don't really need a diesel unless we pull a heavy travel trailer.

Shawn I'm in the same boat. I could afford a way newer truck but actually choose not o get one. Repair cost on any of the newer ones is crazy. And your right, the cummins is the clear winner of the group and definitely what I prefer to work on. They just don't break as much.

When I bought my '98 12-valve I planned on replacing it when I hit 100k. Now, they can't have it until they pry my cold, dead fingers off the shifter. ;-)

Bill Lins::-laf:-laf:-laf!!!

Same here for my 1997. I'm not selling my truck at all. Almost 500,000 kms and running good. Better than the previous 6 owners that have had this truck. I bought it with only 330,000kms. 6 owners with only 330,000kms. I'm now the last owner this ol' goat will ever have.

I couldn't have said it better myself.

Today we got the major assemblies cleaned and parts were ordered. Something must have been wrong with the EGR system because this is the gooey-est intake and head I've ever seen. Not much worked to cut it, solvent tank and scotch brite pad ended up working. Nothing like splashing around in carcinogens... ... .....

Nyoest: :eek:That's horrible! #@$%! Too bad prius guys that run the EPA want our diesels choking on this pathetic system. (My tried and true, big Texas built Bull bar is ready to flatten them). :-laf:-laf#@$%!

I heard Navistar filed a lawsuit against the EPA. I wonder what happened there. Something about EPA not allowing Navistar to run their own type of emission system that allows the driver to not have to do anything like adding urea or something. I'm not very clear here.

Still that's bad. Gassers don't even look like that with egr.

I know diesels are very clean out the pipe now but this is getting ridiculous. I'm sure there are better ways of lowering NOX without having to re-direct the exhaust back into the engine. #@$%!

Even with my #100 fuel plate all the way forwards, modded afc, I have no problem at all with keeping my foot in control, controlling the amount of fuel going into the engine and not blowing smoke or just a little bit. Truck even runs better this way, just got to wait for the slightly slower HX35 to catch up.

Tailgaters get the big black ominous cloud of soot or someone being stupid around my goat.

With technology that we have nowadays, faster turbos, high tech ECM's, etc, the emissions should be pretty clean already.

Try cleaning with BioDiesel. That stuff takes just about anything off. If that doesn't work, then methanol. Wear gloves and don't breath the fumes for Methanol.

Two things here Shawn, YOU are smart enough to drive your truck how it needs to be driven Hows abouts lil Johnny 16 year old in your truck? EPA will see the carbon footprint from space. And so will every grass munching tree hugging long hair, that's where the problem originated.

And second, this truck was malfunctioning when it came in. It had multiple EGR codes as well as others I don't recall currently. This is the first one that has been this bad. But you are right, EGR sucks.

I haven't heard of the navistar suit. Ill have to check into that.

It would be interesting to know how modern manufacturing, mining and oil companies rank as far as polluters. I bet diesel trucks couldn't comprise 1% of the harmful elements Emitted in a day compared to industry.

Nyoest::-laf:-laf:-laf:-laf At seeing Carbon footprint in space! Yeah lil' johnny would ruin my truck and choke out the space station. :-laf

The biggest polluter of all may one day come to life. It's sitting under Yellowstone National Park. The EPA should focus their attention there instead.

The Navistar suit was in Diesel Power.
