Ford/Cummins Truck on EBay

power stroke question

Well, Im toying with the idea of swapping a Duramax into my 57 Chevy Belair. The goal is to have a killer street/strip car, can be daily driven, run ~11s (maybe even 10s!?!) lay down 8-1000hp with or without nitrous. The car will look pretty much stock from the outside, with the exception of nice wheels/tires and maybe window tint. The inside will retain the majority of the stock components, but has diamond tuck now and Im keeping that. Also will have AC, probably autometer gauges, hidden stereo, etc.

Im pretty sure the D-Max will fit, being roughly the size of a big block. The transmission, however, is the big issue. I dont think Ill run the Allison, because Im not going to cut my car up. I want it to be as bolt-in as can be (with custom mounts etc. But if I went back to a traditional gasser setup, I dont want people to look at it and say damn, that thins been hacked up or has been customized for something-see what Im saying?) So Im thinking maybe a 48re would be a better candidate. Im going to take measurements on my truck to see how itll fit. What do you guys think??

Yep, Ive seen it. Read about it in magazines too. Thats what Im kinda going towards, except in a better wrapper. And I think they cut it up more than Im wanting to...

Do it! As much as I dislike V8 diesels in pickups, a V8 is perfect for your requirements.

Didn't the full-sized, Duramax-powered GM vans use a non-Allison automatic transmission? Maybe I'm wrong but I have a flag waving in my brain on this one. I remember hearing that the full-sized vans didn't have the space either, but a de-tuned Duramax was fine for the other transmission. If I am right, wouldn't that be a good avenue to explore?
