Ford Diesel

Killed a Maxipad!

Neighbor has a Duramax. He been redoing his driveway. He has one of those dump trailers. When he's hauling fill You sure can hear that motor. So much for a quiet diesel.

I'll tell you what. . They'll make some noise straight piped also:D I think they sound pretty mean. Any straight piped diesel sounds good to me. I thought they were pretty quiet with mufflers and VERY quiet at idle and in the lower RPM's.

I like the sound of the Duramax. It sounds like a big block with turbo music. My '03 sounds alot like it. We have the same rear axle. Might very well have the same muffler.

What I don't understand is why the PSD sounds like a flutter. If they straight pipe it, it sounds like a loud flutter. :p

Was standing along the highway the other day inspecting a bridge and a Black 4 door Duramax passed me. He was doing about 70 mph and had to be straight piped with an AFE... cause it sounded great. Kinda like a deep V8 rumble with a very loud turbo whine.

Reminded me of the time I took off the muffler of our Cat V8 powered fire truck. I straight piped it with 4". Made a real powerful V8 sound with the distinct diesel note. Chief didn't like it too much so I installed a new muffler. Right now I'm trying to convince them to let me stack it!! It would actually be nice to get all those fumes up over the truck instead of on the ground where we all work.

Back on track... the Duramax does sound sweet with exhaust bombs. A different kind of sweet.

I kinda like the sound of Detroit 2-strokes straight-piped. They're usually nice and smokey bone stock as well. :D

The absolute best sound is a big 12+ liter 4-stroke I6, straight-piped - with the Jake on..... :cool:

Matt,Know what your talkin about. My old Freightliner had a 8V92 Silver in it ,and one day got a wild hair and put a sea ot 5" straight pipes on it. Man did that thing sing!!Came off a off ramp one day and hit the jakes, and this poor old boy on the payphone dropped the handset and grabbed his ears. If looks could have killed man I would be dead!!

pipe inthe air

ncostello;

tell your chief that the dept. is putting all the gang in to a health risk situation, where you all have to work around the truck and all those fumes, "lung cancer". its a proven fact that it is are not good for the human being. look at the bus lines and the majore truck compamies. they are all in the air

just my penny's worth

The ladder truck here in town has a Silver-92 in it..... :cool:

They sure do sound mean.....

The new tower has a Cummins ISX with a Jake... ... :cool: :cool:

That setup with the Allison transmission has unreal retarding power.
