At Barnes and Nobels today I read a lot of info. about the competition in a magazine. Durmax engine has a 5year,100,000 warranty. It runs the 1/4 mile in 16. 4secs in a 4wd auto crew cab (the 8. 1 liter gas only did it in 16. 2secs and it was a 2wd extend cab auto) and the turbo puts out only 8psi max. I just thought somebody out there may want to know these numbers.

Only 8psi of boost?! I think this is where we'll start seeing these chebby guys start cracking aluminum heads when they try getting boost and power up.

Zoikes! That's more than the ol' 6. 5 Turbo!

8psi?

Ooooooooooo!

Let's see how far you can pull the pin from that grenade w/o loosing head gaskets or cracking something.

Sounds like ya might need to take some compression out of those Aluma-maxi's before you throw much boost at them... THAT SOUNDS PRACTICAL.

At least the KISS crowd will gain a loyal following.

LMAO!

If they are making 300hp with only 8psi, then the Duramax breaths a lot better than the Cummins. They may be able to make some serious power, so I wouldn't laugh just yet.

It's a 'typo'. It's 18 lbs. Got this off of the Ford Diesel Forum.
I looked on the Chevy lot at the new Duramax.
It's a nice truck but at $41K, plus, it's untested, I'll just hang in there with my beast and hope Dodge comes up with an answer in the coming months.

Fact:The First Fords' had 'DODGE' Engines! The new PSD's need them!

Kev -

If they made 300hp w/ 8psi... and it had any bottom end torque what so ever, it wouldn't be able to take much more boost... that being the point.

Would you rather have a 300hp motor that is at 85% of its potential barring serious modification...

or

Would you rather have one that is making marginally less, but operating at 60%?

(purely theoretical)

Motor Trend Magazine "An intercooler helps the Duramax make the most of its 8lb of turbo boost". Whos right? #ad

TST dyno tested a showroom stock (except for boost and pyro gauges)Duramax automatic two weeks ago and this truck made 24 psi boost and 1275 F pre turbo exhaust temperature. This truck made 221 horsepower at 3100 rpm and 377 torque at 2100 rpm, power measured at the dyno rolls.

For comparison, the best stock Ram diesel we've tested was a 2001 6spd HO at 23 psi, 1275 temp. made 195 horse at 2700 rpm and 422 torque at 1700 rpm. The best stock Ram automatic('99)at 18 psi and 1175 F made 153 horse at 2700 rpm and 350 torque at 1700 rpm.
