welding on truck?

drove a dmax on tues. ,wondering what all the fuss was about. still wondering? they can keep that great GMfeeling! not impressed at all! truck was a 02 wauto. transmission.

They said it themselves . . they just dont get diesels...

I love it when people who own and drive gas cars/trucks climb into a diesel drive it a while and become experts without ever working it properly.

the D-max is impressive but not an industry leader by far. Ford and Chevy both post better numbers but when you talk to a salesman they almost never mention engines on the dodge. they complain about the interiors of chrysler products and how weak the fors and dodge autos are.

The interior of my dodge is where i'll stay and I'll just have to row through the gears while i'm there;):)

Medium duty???

our only gripe with the Duramax: GM can't make enough for the medium-duty market
Nothing against the D-max, but last time I checked, the D-max is rated as a light duty diesel engine for use in light duty vehicles only compared to our medium duty rated Cummins. I would doubt that the D-max could survive the beating of a true medium duty vehicle.

we want this engine in something a bit more light vehicle-oriented

GM already makes the lightest (actual weight) full size pickups of the Big 3. ;)

Obviously written by car people...

Obviously someone to whom "Hauling a load" means a couple of 40 pound bags of dog food, and a case of micro-brewed beer.

Come on guys, I'm no big GM fan but stock trucks compared to stock trucks the D-MAX rules right now.

I am a HUGE fan of Cummins motors but the top of the line Chevy interior is the nicest and most comfortable interior in current production trucks.

300hp

520lb-ft

allison auto

Come on guys give it some credit.

I'd really like to see Dodge come out with a true crew cab, high power diesel and put Eaton trannys in the manual and maybe the ZF meritor "freedomline" in for the automatic.

I think Dodge should step up with the new truck and hit a home run. Cummins ISC8. 3 would rule ! ! !

DC are you listening????

Frankly, I've given up on the third generation 3500. I'm just hoping they do it right with the 4500 and 5500. Of course, I won't have to worry about that for awhile unless my wife decides she wants a bigger 5ver.

I'll give duramax the tourque, but it is at a higer rpm than the ISB. Also remember the ISB has that wonderfull "flat" torque curve. So far, pick up to pick up, unloaded, all the ones whove tried to race down the intersate cant pass my stock cummins, but i cant pass them either.

Also remember that horsepower is just a mathmatical figure effected by rpm.

Regardless, i will NEVER own a jappanese, aluminum diesel;)

Longevity boys, longevity. That's why we drive these trucks. Let GM have their day, we'll have our decade... . it'll be okay.

I drove my buddies Duramaxi and thought that my Dodge interior was better. Dodge Dash is further away and higher. Dodge hood is longer, better in my book. Chubby seemed like a smaller, lighter duty truck. It was like getting into a mid size truck. I could not hear the engine - bummer! Chubby Allison 1000 is not your fathers Allison 3000. They are set up so they will not stay in OD under load by GM, downshifting before driver wants them to. Go read some of the stuff at: http://www.62-65-dieselpage.com/

Maybe someone should find a picture of the Duramaxi Con Rod, to go with the Phurd, Chubby 6. 2/6. 5 and Cummins picture, I would bet that the Cummins is still twice the size. These little 5. 9L I6 engines can put out 370 HP "Stock" in the Diamond Edition Marine configuration. These little 6's can pust a 47 foot Bayliner Motor Yacht at 20+ knots all day long. Try that with the Navistar 7. 3 or the GM light weight. They would not make it from Seattle to the San Juan's and back.

A lot of these auto journalists don't give a s^&*# if the thing breaks next week, so long as it seems "cool" enough to sell magazines. Yuppies who do 24 month leases read those rags & buy GM. I mean, read the article and you realize the guy knows very little about the whole subject. I've had my dealings with GM; now I'll enjoy my decade with Cummins. Drive on!

i like the fact that GM has added to their gauges-- like alison made them put in a trans temp. gauge, but i agree-- dodge has the most erganomical cab.

After all it was designed to be operated with work gloves... ...

Oo. :) Ah yes, think about this one interesting fact. I challenge anyone to go around to the used truck lots and take a count. When you find the Dodge trucks for sale, they are gassers! You very seldom see a Dodge Diesel for sale. Now look and see how many used Phord Diesels are on the lots and then count up the Chubby Durra ???. I think you all will see something very interesting. Since I already have done this up here in Portland, I know what the answer will be. :D :D I think you will like what you find out. :D :D

I love my Dodge, but even with the EZ, boost elbow, and 4" exhaust my buddy with the Duramax is still whipping my *** up the hills. I think if I had 4. 10's or a stick I could stay with him, but I have to give credit. We are both pulling identical 5th wheel rigs with a GVW of 10,000 LBS.

My other buddy with a Ford just bombed his with an EZ style chip, and with his manual transmission he outpulls us both. Again, he has the same 5th wheel.

But for durability I'll stack my Dodge against theirs any day. Also, my fuel mileage is about 20% better than theirs. :D

I hear the 24-valve/ automatic/ 3. 55 gear is not a good combo. I can attest that with the 5 speed, the little B model doesnt have any trouble on hills, in fact thats were i do alot of passing... . (providing the other guy is also pretty much stock:D )

And sorry guys, but ive even passed fellow cummins drivers with their auto transmission's and fifth wheel's in tow with my Hillsboro 30' tandem flatbed loaded with the old tractors. --- If you've been aross ohio on I-70 one of my fav's is climing out of the miami vally after the I-75 interchange:-laf

I was stating STOCK-VS-STOCK , duramax is the winner of the three in power, comfort, auto trans, and noise this year.

You don't have to rip the "MAX" because you own another brand, GM stepped up and hit a homer so far. Let's just see how the long term testing results.

The aluminum head rumors are a real joke, they are such an easy target for most.

Aluminum heads on an iron block diesel is nothing new, just a big change for the US pickup market.

Dodge has that sweet Cummins under the hood and I wish they's use it. Let's see one of the higher power ratings please and some new transmission's. :D

AL heads

Aluminum heads are an easy target because they ARE an easy target. What serious diesel engine has an aluminum head? Sure it's new because it's cheaper to build it that way. If it was better, then it would've been done long before now.

Supposedly at one time GM was courting John Deere to build a diesel for their PU's. JD would not put an AL head on their engine and that was the end of that.

The DuraMax is built for today's market... 24 month leasemobiles. Who cares what happens to it after 100K?

The DuraMax diesel again demonstrates that GM has more accountants in their engineering dept than engineers.

;)
