Competition For professional CTD owners only !!

Now be easy on me, I am a happy CTD owner but I also own an 02 GMC Duramax with the Allison trans. Can you guys give me your HONEST opinion on these things???

I'd take a Duramax over a Powerstroke. Personal opinion since I've cooked two Powerstrokes. Allison trans seems decent, had some problems on the early trucks (software issues mostly I think). The problem with the Allison is when they break, they are really expensive to work on, I'll keep my 6-speed thanks. Also, a Chev or GMC truck with the Allison has even less ground clearance than an already-too-short non-Allison truck. Those trucks just sit too dang low for my taste and work I do.

I just spent two weeks working with a guy who traded his Ford for a 2001 GMC Duramax. He likes the GMC, but admits that they aren't the work truck that the Ford is. He said the springs aren't as good and the engine has to rev up more than he'd like. Also, this guy does not like Dodges for some reason, so for him its is a strict comparison between Ford and GM.

Stack edge juice boxes and hang on!!!!!!!!!!!

I have a friend with a Duramax who is over 500hp and still on the stock turbo and injectors. That truck is hot (literally as in EGT's also) you can make em go fairly easy.

The Duramax/Allison on a small Chassis is my next project. .

I have a customer running teh BullyDog Power Pup (150 tune) and a HOT Edge Juice ~125HP, and with Stock everything. .

Runinng slicks, (Stock clutch, stock injectors, STOCK STOCK)

Ran a 13. 18 @ 109MPH, and can consistently run mid 13's All Night.

The truck is Brutal on the street. breaking the tires loose in 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th by just rolling on the throttle.

It's a good motor, originally plagued by leaky injector o-rings, but they've strightened up a bit, although, the Allison is the most problematic auto transmission of the Big 3.

I have no complaints about the duramax. Love my Chevrolet.

I'm Not sure what the purpose of your question is, you already own it, ya already know how nice of a truck it is. Great power. Enjoy it, buy a box/tunner or two, or three... ... . :D

I haven't heard of many allison problems on stock trucks, Could they be "problematic" due to the ease of adding power? Mine was toasted at 10,000:-laf

Going to be my next truck. I have read in 3rd generation forum on here about people chunking turbos with just a tst box. The duramaxes are running alot more than that on stock turbos. Matt

Had one for a little while, liked the motor, didn't like the rest of the truck. Wife drives a Denali and I like it, weird. But the Denali has more squeaks and rattles than my 03 goat has, very sad.

It really is a nice truck, I am not putting down the Dodge since I also own one. I just wanted 4 full doors. Maybe Dodge will one day come out with their own 4 door version. One thing is for sure though, I will not part with my 94 CTD its the work truck around the house. Doesn't matter if I scratch and dent it.

stack boxes with the new vvt and see how long it lasts my feeling after seeing few reports and with my own to eyes these vvt and not rugged enough to stand alot of abuse with add on boxes or even stock for that matter. the vain design is the problem from what i understand. holeset has a much better design variable flow cant wait to see one of those mated with the common rail fuel flow capabilities. go get you a duramax. but i would wait for the vgt, 5speed auto, crew cab dodge. ok maybe it will never happen but it might.
