Anyone know of a good forum, such as this one, to get tech help on the Durango's? I found the Durango-Dakota one but it hasn't been much help. I just bought a 2002 Durango, SLT, 5. 9L, Patriot Blue, 4x2, All Leather and 16K miles. The rear heat doesn't seem to work very well if at all and it idles a little rough. I had a Dodge dealer check out the idle before I bought it, they said it was missing on a couple cylinders and it needed new plugs, wires, cap and rotor. I had the dealer I bought it from replace these items but am only seeing marginal improvement. (Unfortunately my wife fell in love with this rig and we took it home that night and they picked it up and had the work done and then dropped it back off at my house) I doubt the wires were bad but the plugs didn't look that great and there was a residue of some sort on the rotor and interior posts of the cap. Other than idle it runs awesome. I definately has more power than it needs, luckily my wife only commutes 5 miles to work, couldn't afford the gas other wise. Anyway, thanks in advance. John

My wife has a 2000 Durango SLT+ with the 360 CID engine. I think that these engines are set up really lean at idle as hers has always been rougher than I would like as well - even from day 1. At 48K miles, it runs fine (except for fuel mileage  ) above idle. So, to use the old dealer's phrase, maybe THEY ALL DO THAT! ;) :-laf

On Edit: The check engine light (MIL) on an OBDII vehicle is set up to come on in the event of EXCESSIVE misfire as the raw fuel can damage the catalytic converter. My wife's Durango has never illuminated the MIL, so (for better or worse) the idle is no rougher than the Dodge engineers expected.

Try the DOC forum. Great folks and lots of info. Not as large as the diesel groups, but good. I had a '99 Durango SLT+, 5. 9 4x4, loaded. Fortunately no problems at all. I do remember hearing about a specific problem with the 5. 9 engines in Rams, Dakotas and Durangos, but you'll have to do a search. The D was a very good vehicle. I traded it in for the cummins...

Thanks for the replies guys, it's appreciated. I'll check out the durango club and see what they have to say. I can live with the rough idle, but the rear heat issue needs fixed. Hopefully the air works back there, I'm sure I'll be needing it in a couple months. John

Can any of you guys tell me how to read codes at the odometer on an '03 Durango?

I thought it was turn the key "OFF" to "RUN" 3 times, holding in RUN on the third time (same as on the Rams).
