4BT with a HY35

any successful E-350 conversions?

I have been looking at thic conversion also. I think the 4BT would be a good choice.

All I need is a Durango and some time. !

i think dodge would have a hit if they did it specially since the Hemi is such a gas hog! I bet they would sell a ton specially since they would have to beef up suspenion to handle the weight of the motor prolly would up the towing capacity to which mean alot of people would buy that instaed of a pick up

I think It would be great but the stock front end would not handle the weight. I owned one and they stock components were marginal at best for the load they carried.

Ma Mopar exports a diesel version of the Durango to South America. There was one at Chryslers at Carlisle a year ago. The owner had a diesel Jeep Grand Cherokee also there... ... ... Andy

Can you buy the diesel converion here in the U. S. from Mopar?

I think your right. If Dodge put a diesel in the Durango instead of the Hemi it would attract alot more buyers! Thanks for all the reply's I just might give a go. I'll keep you posted.

Well hash it out and it turned out to be way more expensive than I orginially had thought. But it was a good pipe dream though. Thanks for the incouragement!

do not know how much diff the dakota is from the durango but banks put the cummins in one, one that made over 700 HP too. They won the speed record for 'fastest truck' @ 220MPH

MRickard

I also read that it was getting like 25+ MPG as well. I was impressed! I just wish that I didn't have to rob a couple of bank vaults before buying any of his stuff. .

THe Banks frame and suspension were highly modified from stock. I am not saying it can not be done but it would be expensive and not just a simple swap.

I'll bet a Isuzu 4cyl from a NPR would be an easy fit to a 2wd Durango. I used to own a NPR with the 175hp diesel and it was fairly quick even for a 12k truck. It also got 14mpg no matter what I did to it. I'll bet 28mpg in a small truck would be easy. :p

Durango Diesel

We have a 1998 Durango w/ the 360 (hauls @$$ and eats a lot of gas) I was thinking about this for the last few weeks especially since the price up gas has become so ridiculous. has anyone really researched this out with the 4 banger I mean? Anybody have any specs on the thing (weight, power, torque, expected mileage)? We love the Durango but this $50. 00 fill up is B. S. Are there any industrial/used 4 bangers out there to be had?Oo.

a 4bt or NPR would be the best bet. The only thing that concerns me is if either motor would be too tall for the Durango because it is IFS. I don't think that you could pull it off without a lift. A 3/4 ton diesel (ie 6bt, powerjoke, or Duramax) wouldn't really give you enough mileage to justify the work. I am dam certain though that if you put in a 4BT you would get at least 25mpg. Lee Alessi (on this board) is getting 24mpg with 38's and a 6400 lb Kaiser M715, which has the aerodynamics of a refrigerator. Hope this helps. This board is decent for 4BT info, but you should also check out pirate4x4 for additional 4BT info.

A couple of years ago there was pics of a 5. 9 cummins in a dakota 2WD. Had the radiator in the bed. It was blue, anybody remember? Was knocking down some good 1/8 mile times.

I think the 4BT would be a great setup in the durango. Being shorter would allow the radiator and aftercooler to reside up front with mods of course.

24 would almost double the mileage our durango is getting.

ie 6bt, powerjoke, or Duramax

:-laf :-laf

Take the muffler off, give nice nozles and pump tweaks, and slap this lable on the side:

Cummins ExhaustStroke Diesel I6

whoop those PowerJokes and DuraMaxis :D

I know we all love the cummins motors! but has anyone seen the new m/b in-line 5cyl in the sprinter. WOW small, clean and I heard of guys getting close to 30 mpg in a 1 ton van. Definately fit in durango. I had to buy my wife a furd van with powerjoke,

couldn't wait the 4 years for daimler to finally make van with diesel. But i will wait as long as I have to for their answer to excursion and suburban. I'm guessing a durango is the dakota with perm cap, so a quad cab with perm cap would be just fine.

I thought there were photos around here of a 6bt in a mid size dodge and they had to put the radiator in the pickup bed because of the tight fit in the engine compartment.

Jeff Garmon built the blue one and I raced it.

The engine is too long to put the radiator in front of the motor without a custom radiator. If you put the radiator there, then you need to remotely locate the intercooler. It can be done as Jeff did it, but it will take lots of time and money.

I saw on a cummins site, that they were trying to develop a V-6 Cummins to go in the Durango and a V-8 for the 1/2 ton Dakotas Can't remember where I saw it or the URL.
