DVD Player?

Is it possible to mount a DVD player in a QuadCab -- the type that mounts in the ceiling, and has the flip-down screen? If anyone has done this, I'd like to know some details please, like the make/model used and cost.



I use a small 9inch TV in the truck to keep the kids busy on long trips. A DVD mounted in the ceiling would give me back from seating space.



I saw one of these in my in-laws Expedition, and thought it'd be nice for the kids when we take long trips.

My friend has a screen mounted in the passenger visor of his Chevy. I can probably get some pics if you would like.



It my not work out too well for the rear seat passengers though.

This is what I've done.



I bought a 7" in-dash TV-screen that doesn't play DVD's for $1,200, an Inverter, and installation for $200 more.

I went ot Best Buy and bought a PlayStation 2 for $199 (Had it installed at the same time)



An In-Dash Screen w/DVD player was going to cost $1,600 + Installation.



A PlayStation 2 not only plays games that can entertain , but, also DVD's.



Any good Mobile Audio/Video shop can make something for you. It is possible to even French in a screen that can flip up from the center console.

I have a 6. 5" flip down mounted to my roof, just has a plate behind the headliner with the screen screwed to it. I guess you can say the headliner is sandwiched between the screen and the plate. Real easy to install, sturdy, does not move, no problems yet. Then for my movies etc. I also use a playstation 2, which I set up with jacks so I can remove it when not on a trip. My sound is hooked through the aux. on my stereo system which is not stock. 10 speaker system with 2- 10 under back seat with 800 watts. Sounds like your in a movie theater. Kids love it, and so do my friends on road trips playing madden 2003. I think it is great cause it keeps the kids quit oh and the friends. Also watch out for the laws in your state, here in CA. it is illegal to be watching a in dash while you are driving, although everybody still does, but if they want to hassle you they will. My is located just behind the overhead console just behind driver view (legal per CHP). Any way good luck.

Primary screen is in the dashboard where the regular radio/CD player used to be. The DVD player is accessed through the glovebox. There are two additional screens mounted flush in the headrests of the front seats for the rear passengers.



The CD changer is under the passenger seat and the PS console under the driver's seat with independent volume control. I could post a few pictures if this helps?



I got a PAC cable in California which keeps the main screen active, to toggle with the SatNav/CD, radio readouts from the steering wheel mounted controller buttons.



BTW, when setting up the PS, I found out that that the alternator output from my truck occasionally spikes at 14. 5vdc, which is marginally outside the operating vdc input spec for the PS console, causing it to recycle every so often. I found a place in the UK which has a gizmo providing a far better regulated input from the alternator which then provides a better isolated DC input which is within spec AND no problems ever since for more than a year now. My son Josh loves it on long road trips around Europe.

I didn't know Playstation 2 could also play DVDs. My kids will be excited if I tell them we're getting one -- they've been wanting to upgrade from N64.



Mounting the screens in the headrests would be PERFECT for my two kids -- never thought of that either...

I went a different route and mounted the two 7" screens in the seat backs so that each child had their own screen. I mounted the DVD player inside the center seat in the front. If you want to see pics just click on the "truck pics" link in my signature.

When I was growing up and going on road trips in the family truckster, all I got was juice with a little extra added. Slept for hours on end.

I have one better, use the new iBook from Apple with the 17' screen and mount it on your center console. Run a 300w inverter and pipe it into your sound system.

Piping into the truck's sound system would sound good. However... I didn't really want to listen to Spy Kids and Pooh's Adventures all the way from SC to IN so I bought a set of wireless headsets. Very nice

We were looking to invest in some head rest DVD players also. A friend suggested that we consider iPads or another tablet type device and that's what we did. I download a bunch of their favorite movies ahead of time and when they get bored with those, they can play games, draw etc etc. Plus, I don't have to carry and DVD's or worry about them getting damaged. I'd seriously advise anyone to consider the tablets first before investing into a DVD system.

We have a 8.9" Kindle tablet. Some movies are loaded on the tablet. Most movies are loaded onto an external hard drive that's plugged into a Hootoo travel router. My daughter has access to a few hundred movies. She can easily reach the headrest mounted tablet in our Megacab. I ran a power outlet for the rear infotainment area. I power the tablet, travel router and cellphone while driving. While all accessories have an onboard battery, I prefer all gadgets to be fully charged. I no longer carry DVD's or CD's. Everything is either hard drive, USB or cloud driven.
