Anyone useing Fordcummins.com Crap?

M1008 Conversion

Hi people,I am new to the TDR club and if I can help some one,let me know. I read through most of all the sites,I am wondering if there are any adaptors for bolting a cummins to a GM hydromatic 400 auto trany. These transmissions can be built to take the output of high horse power and high tork motors. Has anyone have any luck with this? THANKS!

Most of the 4B repowers in Frito-Lay truck used a chevy trans, either a 4 speed or the turbo 400. This will bolt right up to a 6B but will tilt the engine to the right, pasenger side by about 10 degrees.

Hi Steve, thanks for the information on the Frito lay trucks,I did not know this, were some of these trucks four wheel drive? for the right trany. By the way Steve nice projects (80 scout,54 willys)I looked on your web site. I to have a 1968 scout harvester I have had for about 20 years now,I allso prevously owned a 1980 scout, there truly an amazing four by four. THANKS! DWEY

Hi Steve, does this mean that all GM transmissions that come in FL trucks with the 4B,bolt to the back of the 4B cummins directly (same bolt pattern?) or do they come with a factory adaptor? I assume that the bell housing bolt pattern for a 4B and a 6B are different? Thanks for taking time for me, I have alot to learn. As for my scout I have to find a doner truck for a sold body first ,I am tierd of useing a tow bar its time to put plates on it. THANKS! DWEY.

The only parts that will not interchange between a 4B and 6B series engines is the crank, camshaft, oil pan and exhaust manifolds. Most every thing else is interchangable including the transmission adapter weather it be GM, Dodge or Ford adapter. There are also SAE 2 & 3 adapters avaliable. A true modular engine.

Steve, do you know of any one that uses a GM turbo400 auto transmission in there conversion?,and can these tranys be built to with stand a cummins motor, thats put to work ? I had know idea the B4 was basicly the same as the B6. THANKS!DWEY.

Dwey,

The turbo400 was the auto of choice for the Frito-Lay vans with the 4B. It was a special heavy duty truck unit. 3 speed non overdrive. I do think that these transmissions will hold up behing a 4B, but to get any speed you need the over drive version for the street.

This shop rebuilds the 4l80e for extra heavy duty use, thats why my wife and I choose the Dodge 46rh for the Willys. Proven design and cheaper to build than the turbo 400, IMHO.

There are some people useing the GM trans, but I don't remember who. You might do a search or put the question out on the TDR.
