I just received my Dynatrac hub conv. kit and hope to install it on my '06 early next week. I am quite impressed with the apprearance of the parts in the kit. They look like they are very well engineered and very substantial. We'll see how they go together and how they work out. I have heard that some of the later trucks have u-joints with small holes in them which allow greasing with a needle tip. Is this true, and where are they located? Thanks.

On mine it is just the "prop shaft" u joint. It is the u jount that is right in front of the transfer case. It it that u joint only and none of the others. Are you going to replace the front u joints with greaseable ones while you have them out? I thought you got new ones with the kit? I sure don't know why lockable hubs are not an option, seems like most people would get them.
 
The needle type grease fitting in question is on the cv joint of the front driveshaft of the 05 model ( not sure about the 06). It DOES NOT grease the

u-joint , but the ball and socket connecting the two u-joints. I am not aware

of any factory installed greasable u-joints on the 3g trucks.

I have the DYNATRAC kit and I used Precision 464 greasable u-joints on the

front axle shafts. I would highly recommend changing to a greasable joint of

your choice.

I agree. Save yourself some headaches and install new greaseable joints...



Make sure you place the shims under the retaining clips too...

I just ordered the hub kit last week. Can anyone tell me if the kit comes with some sort of tear down/re-build install instructions? Something to guide me, a diagram, something, do's/don't?

Yes, the kit comes with clear instructions/photos. I would recommend reading all that has been written here and in last posts on this forum. There is a lot of very good information and there are some pictures of actual installs. JH

Why? Since those use brass bushings and not bearings, they tend to wear fast when even greased regularly, let alone once every oil change. The CTMs are for a true offroad rig, not one that might see several hundred miles in one pass using 4wd. And I'm not even sure they are sealed are they??



And before you say no one does that... last spring I ran over 600 miles of bad interstates coming back from OK... the roads never got clear and I ran 4wd the entire time.



While a CTM might be the ultimate in high strength, they are not very "durable" over a long haul.

I agrre with steved , the CTM joints are better suited to vehicles used strictly in offroad application.
