Competition Launching in 4Wheel

Competition Test and tune

I think about 30 truck dynoed on Saturday.

I hear there was a 600+hp plus truck, Dodge (I think it was Smokin Diesel/Andy ADT, don't know for sure though).

Another dodge did 490hp on Diesel only.

Keith Livingstone "Rammin On" Dodge 12V ATS auto did 470hp 1100 + torque.

Aaron Otte did 468hp with 2 leaky inter cooler boots! (ATS 30% injectors, PDR 40, Edge, SBC)

A lot of people were disappointed with the low numbers of several twinned trucks that were in the low 400's (dyno? weather?)

These trucks I mentioned were about the top 4 as I remember it.

Someone chime in with corrections or extra info!

Home after the best Muncie yet!!

Congrats Eric for the best one yet. Each year it seems attendance doubles.

We dyno'd 42 trucks Saturday before we blew the electronic stack on the dyno. That was the most Penny Mike and I had ever put up on one day so we are getting better ;)

There are always trucks that don't put down what is expected. There are also trucks that do better than expected. I wish they'd all go over 600, it would make my job much easier. :p

We just got home so I don't have all of the numbers but Great Job Andy. 608hp on diesel only rocks!!! And when you do enough of these, you can almost tell the strong ones just by driving them on the dyno and that was a stout truck.

More later but Thanks to everyone that dyno'd, and I am sorry for those that didn't get a chance.

Congratulations Andy...Awesome...

608 HP on #2 only... .

that is simply AMAZING... and with no correction factor... :D

Andy's truck is a SCREAMER !!

the real question is... .

if the dyno was reading low towards the end of the day... like it seemed to be... based on my HP readings and the many comments I heard from others...

Could that Red Beast be up closer to 700 HP? :--) :--)

I get the shivers just thinking about it...

once again... Congratulations on a job well done !!

P. S. DavidTD... Great job on running the dyno...

Thanks David, for a great job on the dyno and it was great meeting you.

I have to give you credit. Even after such a Hot and Sunny day, and strapping and unstrapping trucks from the dyno all day, you still managed to have a HUGE smile on your face each time you ran a truck. :)

Thanks to everyone who made T. I. M 2003 a success, especially the Man Of The Hour, Eric McBride...

Great Job Eric...

Mother Nature did not work with us on Sunday at the track, but overall I think we all had a blast...

Andy

Dave,

Great job running the dyno.....

Now as for the dyno reading low, I don't think it was. The trucks that I watched that had run on a similiar size dyno prior to Muncie all dynoed about the expected HP. A lot of times people put their trucks on a dyno and are disappointed in the #'s and then we hear how the dyno was reading low, or that they only saw ___ for boost. Truth is you will not see as much boost on a dynojet as you will pulling hard on the street. This has to do with the way the dyno loads the truck. But the number is accurate. From my experience when comparing dynos dynojets give very similiar readings from one to another. Tire slip isn't a problem, and the operator can't really manipulate the readings much if any.

Tuning is the key... ... Back here at the shop I use they call their dynojet "The Humbler"! Last year at the Chrysler National Car Show I witnessed many vehicles who couldn't believe that the dyno was correct. Many of then claimed to have over 700 HP yet there was only 1 vehicle that made over 700 and it was a truck. The highest HP car was a blown hemi car and it did 505. I dynoed on that dyno and made within 6 HP of what I expected.

As witnessed this weekend just slapping on twins doesn't always work. There was some disappointment at May Madness from at least one twin powered truck yet HVAC and Joe D both did outstanding. All of the components need to work in harmony. I know that the guys that are making the big #'s have spent a lot of time tuning (on a dyno, no G-Tech) to get where they are. Heck last year alone I think I made around 300 dyno runs.

Andy's truck is strong and he deserves a big congratulations for it doing so well. He has spent a ton of time getting it ready.

Doug

I heard a few folks moaning about their numbers - it's only natural. You spend all this time and bread, you don't make the #'s... . so you get disappointed. If we didn't moan about it then it would be sorta weird... .

Doug: Thanks for the smoke show on the PA pike... . :-laf

Matt

Well said Doug and thanks to all for the kind words.

When we started running this thing we did one truck every 30 minutes, then 20 minutes and by Muncie we timed as low as 10 mins to an average of 15 mins per truck. I can be happy with that.

I am not used to having so many trucks signed up and wanting to get on the dyno that I don't have time to spend "time" with the owner. I like being able to explain the graph, answer questions and so on but Saturday I had no time. I didn't like that but if we are going to get 40 or so up, that is how we will have to work.

The Mitchell twin trucks all made somewhere around 60 PSI on the dyno. I too was dissappointed in the numbers. If it was the dynos fault it was mine not the machine. I will be doing some "practicing" with a Mitchell twin truck to see if there is a "secret" to getting the power down but my experience is as Doug says... it's just tuning.

Great to meet a bunch of you, just wish I had more time to mingle and party rather than work.

I think that the confusion is compounded by the fact that you can't take a 120HP fueling box and combine it with a 100HP set of injectors and yield an additional 220HP over stock numbers. Some less informed folk may think that is how they calculate their anticipated HP numbers. Unfortunately it just doesn't work out that way. :(

No secret-those twin trucks were low on fuel, big time.

Friend of mine got on, expecting 450 hp,(No way. ) it was about 300.

I said what do you expect, with 370 injectors on a 94 truck with stock timing?

Well, it had a Piers 40!!

I think it was pretty accurate.

"The dyno is reading low. " LOL!

I thought the dyno was reading low at first also, then after I tried to drive my truck back to the hotel, I realized that the turbo had left some of itself back on the dyno.

Thanks to Andy from ADT, MASSDIESEL, Timmy and Jeff for helping get the truck back together good enough to make it home.

Ted

Ted...

Sorry to hear you left some of your charger on the dyno ... . bummer!! David thought he blew my motor on the first run ... the TC unlocked and it really made a racket!! All in all it was a good day!!

David and Penny sure were beat by the end of the day ... I thought Penny was going to pass out about 5:30 ... they sure did a bang up job getting all those trucks done ... Thanks David and Penny ... . !!!!

Doug is absolutely right !!! so is Patriot

Life is good!!!

Keith

Hey Keith - when that thing unlocked and the tack spun hard towards 4k, I had flash backs from about two weeks prior when Jeff blew the drag truck motor... :--) :--) :--)

Glad it did fine the next pass. Oo.

Again thanks to Edge, everyone that got on the dyno, and my crew Penny and Mike. There was a record number of dyno request this year (somewhere around 100 before we stopped taking names)

The dyno is repaired... nothing $$$ wouldn't fix. :( :(

I could tell ya... .

Seriously,

Congrats Andy on the fine showing on the dyno. I tell people about it and they're jaws drop in amazement. Thanks to everyone at Muncie for an awesome time. Special thanks to Scott at Massdiesel for dragging my carcass around all weekend and showing me what Muncie is all about. Man, that Lees Inn was a cool deal too.
